ZOWIE! Just had another earthquake (probably an aftershock from the bigger one we had on Easter). It was 5.7 .. maybe 5.9.. they say now.. no, now it is 5.4 (I'm in So Cal) Just after cleaning up my chair-side table today, I found a picture that had fallen down, most likely during the PREVIOUS earthquake. I put it back up.. and GUESS WHAT: it fell down again in this quake (several hours later)! I have 2 little wooden cats; one or both fall down in an earthquake; I call them my "earthquake sentinel cats". (They are light and falling doesn't hurt them) . Just ONE fell down this time (BOTH fell down on Easter). Maybe I should just leave everything on the floor. Better, I need to use "museum wax" that helps valuables from falling whether in a museum or at home. I even have some. I've used it to fasten a caller id gadget that kept falling on the floor (regardless of earthquakes). These quakes are nerve-rattling (everything rattles) but something to talk about. The Easter quake knocked down several items in my condo, but no one in my family was hurt. I'm not anxious for the "big one" - not in my lifetime!

Oh dear! I am sorry you guys had such a shake down there. Hope all is quiet now! I'm glad it was just a "one-cat quake"!
Did you live in LA when the Northridge quake happened in '94? I was here in SF for the '89 one and as far as I'm concerned THAT better have been the "big one" in my lifetime!
Hope the rest of your evening is peaceful!

Yeah, we felt it at the museum I'm at. We wound up going outside because it was lasting so long. Also, it set off the alarm in one of our ancillary museum buildings. I got a text message from El Hubby right afterwards: "Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!" EDIT: Finally looked up the epicenter site, and it turns out it was only 15 miles from where I was at the time. No wonder it felt so strong!

So glad you're safe! We've had a couple of baby ones over the past couple of years here in Ma. At least with hurricanes we have preparation for them.
Stay safe!

I'm sorry you were rattled by this, and hope you don't have any big ones any time soon.
It's funny, but our insurance agent recently sent us a letter pointing out our lack of earthquake insurance -- in south Louisiana! My husband went to ask if she was serious and she quoted us $106/year for the coverage!
Hmmm, with my luck, I wonder if I should take her up on it?

I've had the insurance since 1992 and everyone laughed. That was way before we started getting them. Not taking any chances on the foundation cracking from one.

I was here in Los Angeles for yesterdays quake. I didnt notice it (I was getting a foot rub from a friend at the time, and was too busy ) but my other friends up the street felt it a little. i remember the Northridge quake (6.8) very well. I was trying to find my glasses when it woke me up (Im blind as a bat without them) and the bed was just tossing me around everywhere. We had no major damage but all the people's houses and apartments I go into have little cracks in the walls from it. messylife, just curious, what general area do you live in?

Hello all, I'm in San Diego, and things are settling down here. I remember the Northridge quake - it was worse than this one even here. I remember the San Francisco shake (89?), not that I felt it. I bet it did feel like the "big one" if you were there. I was making a rare long-distance call to France for work that night and couldn't decide whether to tell them or not.. I think I didn't.
I'm on the 3rd floor and that probably magnifies a quake a little. When my place shakes just a bit I sometimes wonder if I'm feeling some of the many very small aftershocks that I hear we are having. Of course it is probably just the people downstairs.. at least usually!

It's definitely the people downstairs, messy - I'm within a short drive of the epicenter and we're barely feeling the aftershocks, since they're all in the 2-2.5 range. I've joked to my co-workers that we're not feeling aftershocks, that there's just someone nearby stomping really hard.

Due to go to Disneyland in August and from threads on the mouseplanet board, they felt it there. I am counting on it being quake free when we are there.
