I want that box of papers to be empty, with every paper in its proper folder. But I don't want to DO it. I just want to WILL it to happen.
So far, that's not working out so well.
Do you have any experience with papers that refuse to file themselves?

Do 10 of them - then do something else - then do 10 more - and repeat the process.

Do 10 of them - then do something else - then do 10 more - and repeat the process. I'm afraid I'm gonna have to work harder than that. I think I'll do better by working in 10 - 15 minute shifts. But who knows, I might get carried away and do more. To get myself started though -- I'll do 10 of them.

Dear MiSC,
Poke, poke, poke!
To help you along, I will work on my papers, too. The a/c is out again here, and it is too hot to think of doing anything else.

I totally know the feeling, MisC. I have 3 boxes full of papers to sort through and put into my filing cabinet - I've been putting it off because most of the papers are related to the mountain of debt I'm in and until very recently I never even wanted to acknowledge the debt, much less go through and figure out how to start dealing with it.
I started out really, really small by just going through the receipts and filing them by month for taxes later, since we're in such a financial pickle that I've begun saving everything as a possible work-up to a bankruptcy.
Recently, I've been treating it as something akin to a drinking game - watch a movie or TV show, and whenever they do something on a list of things that one would normally take a shot for, I put a piece of paper properly away instead. It's very goofy, but it works.

AmberWind, what an interesting idea!
Thanks, MiSC, for starting this. I hope you get a chance to come back and post how you are doing. I am slowly getting through a few at a time, then stopping to fold clothes or tend dinner or... always more to do, isn't there?

I have this situation with the mammoth mountain of baskets and boxes of mostly legal papers. twenty years worth.
maybe there's other stuff mixed in there. no doubt.
I couldn't say.
I need the invisible helpers, too.

7 and a half hours later.....
I'm still working on it. And I'm really only about half done. Yikes!
But it's getting there. I just need a break. I've watched all the "Lie to Me" and "House" episodes available on hulu.com. What other shows have been good lately? (Something that's not on the USA Network. I don't think they play on hulu.)

Papers are hard for me. I had a problem with mail. It piles up for months before I want to deal with it. I pay my bills online, but I do have a few medical bills that weren't covered by my copay that need attention.
I have found that the best way for me to deal with papers is to sort them into cagegories, and then file the piles. Plus I keep a shredder closeby to deal with the things I don't need.
I try to deal with paperwork once a week.
Good luck!!

Mr. Frederickson would probably give his paperwork to Kevin to eat. Alas, Kevin is apparently busy elsewhere.
If there is any consolation in companionship, I have to sort through my parents' paperwork, scattered throughout the house, MiSC. The most recent paperwork is in fairly good shape, but there was a period that Mom was loosing her abilities to handle it and the time she quit that paperwork was just stashed places rather than filed. Remaining areas to declutter are my parents' bedroom and the area around the dreaded Ping-pong Table of Doom.
No Kevin either. Or house elves. Or even Mr MiSC. Looks like I'm elected. Sigh.
I'll poke you if you poke me. Consider yourself poked.

We can report back to each other. The noodles are ready.
