A short update on progress and ongoing issues.
Today I found myself carefully washing a glass jar and its lid because it would be useful for storing things. In fact I was doing it automatically as I have been most of my life and as my Grandmother did when I was a child after WW2. So I looked and have put the eight carefully cleaned and stored jars in the recycling. Also I found an old can of food 'best by' last year and that went out as well.
In the last few weeks I've also got rid of a load of old banking papers which I have stored electronically and which I cannot see I will ever need.
Landlords have also said that they wanted to visit twice in the last few weeks and I've felt good that there was only a little to tidy up before they came. I can remember the nightmare this used to be. In fact the landlords did not come either time.
I keep using up stationery stuff and feel OK about what I have left.
One thing that concerns me is that my lawyer had several boxes of papers which he has finished with. I don't want them back yet. I want them back when he has completely finished everything when I need to go through them one last time for tax purposes. I suppose I can ask him to keep them for the time being.
This November is the twentieth anniversary of the fire in my flat which was my rock bottom as regards messyness and hoarding and I want to have everything perfect by them. Perfect is foolish and I need to be content with doing my best which is all I can ever do.
So that's it for the moment. Thanks everyone for being here.

Dear Rory,
I know you attend church, so I hope you don't mind my suggestion that you leave the perfect for the Almighty, who already was and is perfect on your behalf. He will tell you "Well done, good and faithful servant" for being responsible to do what He made you able to do. (Yes, I have the same problem, I want to be perfect, too, and have to remind myself of this often.)
Yes, by all means, leave the papers with the lawyer if you can until all of your proceedings are finished. That way you don't end up with them hanging around waiting to see if he needs another or not.
Thank you for your gentle inspiration, and I hope the time between now and your vacation is blessed and not stressful at all.

Rory, it's wonderful to hear that you have progressed so far, you sound as if you're truly finding contentment now.
Man, can I relate to that! I too, am getting so much better at resisting saving things like that.
You are one of the success stories that can let new members have hope!

We actually keep jars and wash them to drink out of. I buy glasses several times a year at Wal Mart but they get broken.

Thanks everyone:
messymimi - I shall add that to my morning prayers. I do believe it. Thank you.
At the church where I do voluntary work I found a whole drawer full of jars with lids this morning. I must ask what they are used for sometime. I think I know - nothing!

Rory,
In your honor I purged 1/2 a 33 gallon trash bag of plastic container lids yesterday. Most had no containers (a few I tossed both container & lid that was broken or gross) and some had moved here with us over 10 years ago.
Thank you SO much for the inspiration!
