I am at a bottom of bottoms. I think I have killed my baby cat from neglect. He is 11 years old and the fleas and heat , I just dont know he is ill. I have treated him for fleas. I feed him Iams, I have done everything that I as an unorganised parent can do. He has been sitting on my desk for 2 days. I just paid all my money for glasses, and I know if I take him to the vet on the weekend, the bill will have an additional fee. Plus, my daughter and her new beau, just want to drop in on me on Monday. I am not going to do well, I am afraid. Please help

Take a moment and breathe. What are his symptoms? Does he seem to be in pain? It is so hard when they can't tell us what is wrong! I understand the $$ issue all too well.

PLEASE DO NOT allow this poor animal to suffer any further.
Is there anyone who could help with the cost of a vet visit?

I am not judging you. But what matters now is kitty. If he has not had water in 48 hours, that is really not good.
Is there no way you can borrow the money? Someone, friend/family/neighbor, who could help out?
Monday is a very long way away.

Hi, I'm not judging. Where are you located? Are you in the U.S.? If so, what part? There's a tick disease that affects cats in many parts of the U.S. (not all states)--the first symptoms are not eating or drinking and not moving, just sitting or lying down. Not trying to scare you, but if that's what he's got, it's very serious and he needs to see the vet asap. Harley Kathbrant, I remembered you posted an intro so went back and read it and saw that you're in Texas. Please read this info on the tick disease since it's definitely found in your state (mine, too)-- www.moggies.co.uk/articles/tick_disease.html

Okay, he usually stays on my front porch, and then wanders around, he could have anything, even with his shots, and what not, I actually thought he was safer on the front porch than in the filth of my home. My daughter is a possiblility, and I will call my son, they are both very helpful, if not understanding of my situation

Either that or talk to your vet about setting up some kind of payment. Or check the humane societies. Sometimes they know of vets who will do pro bono work for people without much money. Vet schools are another possibility.

Sweetie, some cats are allergic to some flea meds & the companies aren't good about putting that on the label. We found out years after several of ours died by reading about it on the internet. Our vet even thought it might be feline lukemia, but the test was inconclusive.
You at least need to push fluids & stop the flea spray & see if that helps any.
You can get through this, for both your sakes.

Well, ticks are all over the place outdoors--absolutely nothing to do with you. They don't hang around on the cat for long--they just bite, feed and drop right off. So you wouldn't necessarily see them. Also, they can be very small before they have eaten. Ticks are just a hazard of outdoor life and don't have anything to do with squalor or our housekeeping skills. My cats go outside, too, so I have to be aware of the ticks as well as the fleas. This has been an awful year for fleas! Please don't be so hard on yourself but just get the kitty to the vet as soon as possible.

Sounds better for him, anyway, if he's trying. Let us know how he's doing tomorrow. Meanwhile, get some rest. If you are going to bed, I think I will too. I was hanging on to see if I could help, but my yawns are beginning to obscure my screen!

I can understand the money issue very well. I am sure that you are doing your very best for your kitty. Not even the best kitty parent can foresee every illness or injury. You did not give enough details in your post for much useful advice. Also, there are many others more expert than I am, but I wanted to let you know that there are many options open to you, before seeking veternary treatment.
If he is alert, and simply being less active, I would not worry too much, as long as he is drinking water. A few days without eating will not hurt him. Also, pay attention to his stools and whether he is urinating.
You might look inside his mouth. One cat of mine would not eat kibble, and I found a cut on her tongue, which easily explained her not eating.
If he is not wanting to move, perhaps he was injured. One of my cats was injured (likely hit by a car.) I took her to vet, and even the vet did not notice a huge hernia. I noticed it AFTER the vet visit, and took her back in. She had surgery, and fully recovered, and lived for many years after that.
I agree with the poster who said that kitty may have problems with the flea meds. Not only allergies, but also poisoning can occur. My neighbor treated her dogs with a different flea med than usual, and all the dogs started having seizures. She used the oil or water from tuna, to help them recover. (I do not remember what exactly she did.) I suggest you look on-line to see if other cat owners have reported problems with the same flea med that you used. Make sure the product was designed for cats. A bathe may help remove the product, but it may also help spead the product onto other parts of the skin.
You also mention the heat, but you did not say how hot it is.
You may still need to take kitty to the vet, but every detail you notice about kitty will help both you and the vet decide what can help kitty.
If you feel nervous about posting to the forum, you also have the option of sending a private message to any of the users here. Click on the user name on the left hand side of the screen, to access their profile, then you can send a private message.
I hope kitty pulls through!
