My whole family will be leaving for 7 days, and I'll be here, alone with our cat and Mom's dog. I keep joking that I'm going to get them up on the couch with me, and we're going to watch every R-rated movie we can find.
But the truth is that I'm falling apart inside.
I need to go do some laundry for them to take with them, but do I hear the washer washing? No. Are the bags packed? No. The snacks for the plane trip? No.
I don't know if this is me being l*zy or if I'm just avoiding it because I'll get upset when I do it.
I've given myself til 2pm, about 45 minutes from now, to start. I need to psyche myself up to do this, but I cannot find a single positive to latch onto.
Any ideas? (And the "me time" thing never works with me. I much prefer to have them all with me 100% of the time. It needs to be something else.)

It is wrenching, isn't it. I hate being away from the kiddos, even overnight. A week is a long time! But, if you get all the laundry and packing done now, you'll have time to snuggle them and read them stories and make their last evening here fun and relaxed. That's how you want to send them off.

P.S. I hate packing, but find that Flylady's "you can do anything for 15 minutes" works wonders here. Once you get your momentum going, it goes okay. Good luck!!

MiSC, why don't you try to think of a project that you can do while they're gone that will be a surprise for them? Like cleaning up some family area in your house that they can enjoy when they come back? GET THAT WASHER STARTED! (Mr. Grinch is looking over your shoulder, encouraging you. I know that's not his name but I can't remember what it is! ) Diane

I got the washer started (before 2pm). I think I'll do something odd and wash the bedclothes next. If I get clean bedding and get it all straightened out, I'll have a staging area where I can fold and pack. I need to get the baggies ready for their breakfasts. They're trying to save money by taking a few little food items with them that they can eat in the room. Sean is a notoriously picky eater, so I'm sending his cereal in little baggies. Ditto the plane snacks. I'm washing some of the new shorts and things that I got the boys, just in case they have some kind of itchy reaction to them straight out of the bag. One thing I HAVE to do before Sunday is get a birthday cake for Colin. His birthday was last week and we did absolutely nothing for him. At least he won't be expecting it this way. Off to eat some soup.

You have my empathy.
It's just me and and my daughter here, she's 14 now, and when she spends the night with a friend, which seems to be every weekend now and sometimes more often as it's summer, I can't even sleep at night. I do get a lot of work done, but it's only to distract myself from the fact that I'm alone.
Just stay busy and do watch some of those movies!
