Today yet more stuff thrown out. I keep finding things, they may be neat and tidy but they are still things I don't need. So old diaries, old financial records, old records of a society I belonged to, old banking stuff, and bits of an old computer which were neatly stored in a cupboard but would not be of any use to anyone.
As I did this I kept thinking of my death and of dying. I suppose I associate clearing up stuff with what I've had to do after people have died. I don't think clearing up my stuff will bring me any nearer dying myself but it is a strange and very disturbing feeling.
I'm getting used to sitting at my table working and looking at the bookcases in front of me which are not now filled to overflowing with stuff. I keep thinking of my mum who whenever there was a space she had to fill it with something.

Way to go, Rory! That's one of the hardest things I've had to deal with: empty space is a good thing, not an invitation to fill it with stuff.

Great Work, Rory!
As your surroundings become more clear, you can better see what you need and love, and what you don't.
Going back over things and getting rid of more stuff makes for a continuing upward spiral in your surroundings, which makes for the same in life in general.
It is a bit unnerving to think about what will happen to our things when we are gone, but it doesn't hasten our demise, and it does make the time we have better when we don't surround ourselves with so much. It also leaves our loved ones with less of a chore.
I'm glad you are getting used to empty space. "Space is not something to fill with beauty. Space is beauty." ~ Anon.

Great work Rory! Inspiring for me to keep at it, even if the piles got "clean" they're still piles!

Way to go!! I always say the first step is the hardest, once you get the ball rolling, whether it is decluttering or cleaning, it becomes second nature. I love posts like these, always makes me look at my stuff with a more critical eye.

Good job Rory!
These emotions might be hard to deal with, its very brave of you to carry on despite the feelings. I know the more progress you make, the easier things will get.

I wouldn't want to leave a legacy of a mess left behind for dd if the time comes along either - way in the future.

I am kinda glad you mentioned this Rory...because I often get the same sort of thoughts when clearing and sorting things. I thought I must just be a morose type of person! But when you analyse it, it makes sense. We are dealing with things from our past, and assessing whether we need those things in the future, it is all about time and what we have had, where we have been, and where we are heading...which logically makes us think of the fact that eventually we won't be needing any of this stuff, because we have all gotta go sometime!

It does make sense doesn't it. I am at a turning point in my life with almost all the junk gone.
I'm back from the church where I have left a printer which I've never used and they can. Last night I got rid of some old boots. There is more to go. I've listed it elsewhere.

Thank you and an old t shirt which was torn but reminded me of a good time once and the good time still happened though the t shirt is gone.
