last night I hit the mother lode with street finds.
a very attractive, not too heavy, not too big, nor too small, wooden armoire. not painted a bilious color.
not wrecked.
not too far away from home.
and -- I left it there. on the street.
this thread has stimulated my mind.
so I just googled Wooden Wall Storage.
aiee!!
the only thing that even sounded believable was in the $4000. range.
rethinking leaving stuff on the street...

ok, joy asked me a bunch of questions.
the windows are along the 12' wall, I think. they are at either side of it. they are each 6' tall, and might be about three feet? up from the floor? no, has to be less, because, I think the walls are 9' high. and I think there's a bit of space above each of the windows. yes, there definitely is.
about -- hmm, less than a foot. 9"? 6"?
don't know how much space between them.
the closets are on the south wall -- to the right of the front entrance -- which is just an opening into the room. the door to the bathroom has a real door on it, but it opens inward, not into the main room.
and there is space all the way into the corner, after the closets. I have a tall file cabinet there now.
as for what I love -- you know, i have a vintage kimono -- and the bamboo pole to hang it on -- which is stored away, not on display at all.
it's true, if I put it on display it will get dirty.
the best solution would be a plexiglass case of some kind.
I love that.
I have some framed photos on the wall -- and a tiny bookcase behind the bed, along the wall -- which has perfume bottles and some photos on top of it.
and I have a little area to the right of that -- where I can put the sort of things you'd put on a night table.
again -- I'm thinking this clunky wooden trunk I have, that is now buried in other stuff -- in the best of all possible worlds, it would go.
I'm in a blue mood -- blue and white. like natural everything...

I do not understand...how does the main room only have an opening? how do you lock the house when you leave it? is there some kind of mud room that is entry point? ok My biggest contribution is still the murphybed....that is all I know but reading others ideas I think that the upper portion of room for books is good idea too..I think HopeHope reads a bit more than I do and may have a ton more books than me too....anyway going to say I think figuring a way to display your Kimono is a great idea like a home make trophy cash on corner...would just take a frame for the plexiglass on two sides and top...use the corner for other two sides...
hugs lucky

you enter the apartment in a little hall. there is an opening from the hall into the main room. the kitchen also comes off that hall -- directly opposite the opening.
sorry. I tried to use puppy box's grid the other night but I couldn't. not so techno-savvy.

okay go back to the grid site, login in under the name puppybox and the password 4fishies then you want to OPEN the room I created called hopehope.
I cannot understand where the kitchen is. i hope its in the entrance hall.
the book cases beside the bed should be about 3 or 4 feet high, not tall ones. one faceing west, one east. this makes a bit of a private room for your bed. the bookcase facing bed acts as your night stand.
you could keep the trunk if its flat and use as seating, like a bench in a locker room-. put it in front of the closet so you have somewhere to sit to put on your socks. depends on shap of your table. you could stck it under the table maybe. keep all clothes in closet. filing cabinets are hideous, throw it away, keep files in bankers boxes and put on other, tall book case. which could not be a case but shelves attached to wall, going up high so you can have more.

I had the same problem when I tried to look at puppybox's design. It was a Java issue; I downloaded a newer version of Java & voila! I could see it. Can you do that from the computer you're using?
