Okay. -- my apartment is 10' by 12' -- excepting the kitchen and bathroom (and tiny hall).
So all life pretty much has to take place in that little space.
What if -- instead of working back from the negative -- I started from Go?
It's a contest. The winner gets to star in a bad bit of doggerel. Or gets three gold stars and a WTG. Or...? Name your prize.
In the meantime. -- in this room we have to :
1. Sleep 2. Store clothes 3. Eat. 4. Store books. 5. ?
I wish I could provide you a blueprint sort of thing. Let's see ...
The entrance is in the ssw part. The door to the bathroom is in the wnw part. The two windows are on the north wall -- at either end.
Go for it.
Be as flagrant and generous as you want. -- probably we will meld these ideas and try our best to manifest something like it.
Give my imagination wings?

A friend with a tiny studio apartment got a loft bed from Ikea and was able to fit a desk, chair and small filing cabinet underneath it. Loft beds free up a lot of floor space and are way cheaper than Murphy beds.

i wanna lox bagel if i win. loft beds are way cool. i have admired them a lot. from down below. . once you're over nineteen, it's kind of an each at his own risk type thing, i think. but if she is up to it, that is way good. i had thought of putting books up by the ceiling, but not people. good idea if you don't already have them, shelves that go around the room just below ceiling height. these can be the very basic type, a board on those metal rungs, or fancy if you prefer. these are great for books not read very often or things you use just for display. this is not fancy, but if you have no table, you could put some of the boxes, drape them with a nice cloth, or maybe a sheet on the bottom and a nice cloth on top to make sure they're all covered and have a table. you can turn one corner into another closet by stringing, stapling or using a rod to hang a sheet or curtain or even just material from the ceiling. it makes a triangle closet and can hold a lot but does not take up a lot of space. you can hang a clothes rod for clothes, or use it to stack things up to the ceiling but it does not look so confining this way. if you want it to look pretty, you can use longer material to cover teh whole thing floor to ceiling then curtains to tie back at the ends. many things like brooms and mops can be hung on the wall that we might not usually think of. they sell things to do this with, or you can use pegboard and hang pretty much anything. plus iwth pegboard, you can move around the things nad its not permanent. if you have trouble remembering where things go, i have seen folks outline things on the pegboard, etc. with marker or paint so they put it back in teh same place each time. this can be done to look spartan and garage like or with color to look kinda cool and fun. you can buy or make if you are handy a table that hooks to the wall and folds down when not in use. kinda murphy bed like. years ago, i had my mattress on top of those large plastic crates for storage from the discount store. at the time this was because i had no frame not for extra storage, but no reason you could't do it for that reason. you can fit a ton of them. if you have cabinets anywhere, remember you can put hooks or nails inside the doors to hang small things from. both sides of the bathroom door can hang things. i know that style is important to you so maybe some of these things can be done in nice material or with basic stuff but then fancy touches added like lace (or whatever is your flavor) to make it look nice but without the expense. also, the book shelves can be painted to look nice. OH AND I FORGOT. you've got the underside of them as well to hang things from with cup hooks or those wire baskets they make now for just that purpose. you can have those around the room too. not sure if those are paintable but they are FABULOUS. GOOD LUCK

an afterthought. you could even have a floor to ceiling curtain or material on the pegboard wall to cover that, too. you would only say two inches that way but have floor to ceiling storage again for things that were not wide but could be tall such as brooms, tools or you can do small things, i have done my threads.

ps
right now, i have no tv table. so i took two unplugged tall space heaters, put a board on top, covered with material, and voila, a tv table. so, most of the stuff i do is to make furniture out of what is not furniture but could also be thought of as storage if you think of it the opposite way. not only are the heaters stored for teh off season but there is room between them to put something else if a person were so inclined.

Hope, what about your fantasy? Do you have any furniture, art, pillows, etc. that you love that absolutely MUST be part of the picture?
- Are your windows on the 10-foot or 12-foot wall? - How high up are they from the floor? - How big are they and how much space is there between the windows? - Where is your kitchen area in relation to the front door corridor and bathroom door? - I think you mentioned closets that you declined to allow ll to inspect. Where are they in relation to the other doors? - Are the closet doors regular door size or are they large folding or sliding doors? - About how high are your ceilings? - Can your true taste in furnishings be described with one phrase such as French provincial, Danish modern, etc. or does it run more toward eclectic? I think I know the answer but would like you to confirm.

blue print design a room thingy! www.designaroom.net/tell us if the room is longer N to S or E to W. are the doors on the west wall? or is the entrance doorway on the s wall? you should eliminate bookshelves. get brakets and get those books up up up on the wall not taking up floor space. where is the kitchenette area if you have one? do the doors open into the main room or out. maybe the entranc door is not a door but where the hall meets the room? the loft bed might be a good idea but don't sleep on the upper part. you can store stuff there. very ugly though

Hmmmm. . .if it were just for me, not knowing exactly where the halls and doors are; and assuming there's space in the kitchen for storage of tableware, basic cooking tools, and food, and enough room in the bathroom for basic supplies,
I'd place a twin platform bed with storage drawers underneath along one wall, with big pillows along the back, to serve as seating space during the day and a place to sleep at night, with clothes storage in the drawers. I'd hang my favorite picture/s on the wall behind it.
Because it's a sofa as well as a bed, I'd put a coffee table (with storage drawers, or maybe a low chest that serves as a coffee table as well as storage) in front of it. If it can be placed on casters to move it farther away at night, so much the better.
I'd have an end table--with a drawer--at one end of the bed/sofa, and put a lamp on it for reading light. This would also serve as a nightstand, with the alarm clock, etc. going in the drawer by day. Or maybe I'd put the alarm clock into the coffee table drawer and make a filing cabinet into a nightstand/end table, if I needed space for records/bills/etc. Since this is my fantasy studio apartment, that would be a wooden filing cabinet.
Are there overhead lights?
Along another wall, there would be a floor-to-ceiling bookshelf, because. . .books. Also decorative stuff, souvenirs, and pictures.
If there's room near the bookshelf, I'd place a comfortable chair and hang a light over it for reading. I'd skip the chair if it crowds the room, though, and read on the sofa.
Near the kitchen, I would put a smallish, round table and a couple of comfortable dining chairs, because in addition to dining, this would be the bill-paying/computer-using/sewing/whatever table. Over this, I would hang a chandelier---not necessarity crystal, but as elaborate or as simple as I wanted it to be.
Are there closets? If not, can the space be modified, or is carpentry not allowed? If there are closets and they didn't already have them, I'd install sliding doors to save room in the main living space. An unused corner can be made into a corner closet to store a mop, broom, cleaning supplies, and vacuum cleaner by hanging a curtain or a door from wall to wall.
I'd lay an area rug in front of the bed/sofa (if I didn't have critters), hang more artwork on the walls, and donate/trash whatever doesn't fit.
