Recently Thing1 ended up in a little bit of trouble. Details don't matter and don't belong to me.
The point is that Thing1 was stuck at home with "nothing to do" and was very depressed. It sucks to feel that way but my lecture included four things that every human needs to take care of every day:
Body: Sleep a reasonable amount of time, and then get out of bed. Shower. Get dressed. Eat something reasonably healthy. Most situations look at least a little bit less grim once these are done.
Mind: Read something, study something, play a game that expands your mind. Think or plan. Do something to use what you've got to help you value it.
Personal space: Just for today, take your used dishes to where they belong, put the dirty clothes worn today where they should go. Just pick up today's mess if that's all you can manage. Eventually you can pick at bigger messes.
The World: This one is the biggest one, but can be the most rewarding. Take care of something outside your space in whatever way appeals to you. For a teen, this can be vacuuming the house, or cooking dinner or mowing the lawn. Some chore that someone else usually does routinely. Ideally this can be expanded to volunteering for a good cause, or helping someone outside your household. There's a big old world out there and it is ultimately our job to improve it.

I'm poking my pointy little head back out into the big, wide world again. Guess that means I'm not too bad!

Excellent advice.
Another take on 4 things -- every day, be careful what you put into your body, mind, soul, and heart.
I agree that if you are taking care of the 4 things you list, there is never a reason to be bored.

yes I agree these four are great...I remember battling with some of one when depressed though...but found the number 4 works greatly into healthy living...I like to give to volunteer and to serve others.....AA has taught me those things....hugs lucky
