If I could, I'd probably clutter my casket. [/quote] This made me laugh....I could've said it myself!!

Agree about "I am not alone in this." Also about amnesty, as Chris said. And the 15 minute thing. And the fact that that too much stuff can't be truly organized well. Also the perfection being a curse. Funny thing---We are all different, but we are all alike, in many ways. This site is invaluable to me. catcat

I've learned it is possible to achieve my goal of decluttering my home and maintaining it. The one and only reason for joining. Meeting some wonderful people here was the added bonus. It's been 1 year today since I joined and will be 9 months on the 25th of this month I completed my decluttering. SNM

my entire world turned upside down since coming to SooS....what with the required move...the wrecked car...the loss of job....but this site has taught me that if I am dilligent and keep going at it as if there is no tomorrow I will be able to stay in what I have created which is now maintenance levels....I would wonder if it is even level one now? I have no clue as I only read those levels one time on this list...so I learned that too...there are levels of squalor and before I was in three probably with the mouse poop and rat turds....and all the things I had wrong in my old home.... hugs luckyleprechaun

This is so cool, SNM--you are proof that it can be done, and an inspiration to all the rest of us!
I LOVE it! I want to be squober too!!

Since coming to SOS, what have you learned, or what have you come to embrace, or what's been a revelation, and so on? Basically, what change has happened in your psyche -- or even in cleaning tips. What's changed since you got here? I'm learning that I spend too much of my time on the internet, which is the cause of my hoard, and preventing me from cleaning up. Now that I spend less time on the internet (almost 0, a couple of hours a week max), the house is a lot cleaner, and the children a lot happier!

Yes, this site is a double-edged sword--it makes me want to spend more time on the computer than I should (I still feel guilty for not being able to read everyone's blogs--I wish I could!) but it also gives me contant inspiration to work on my decluttering.
At least I'm not shopping online--I might be wasting time, but not money.

I've learned:
* that you can change habits that you've had all your life * that every minute you put into cleaning is worth it *having less stuff has its own rewards *motivation follows action!

That stash & dash (and then not getting dealing with the results for years) is not a normal or good long term way of cleaning house- I actually recommended this to an overwhelmed mom on another list years ago. Another member privately recommended I check out the original SS message board. I`m so grateful she did (thanks, T, if you`re still around!). Even though I`m not "there" yet, I`m so much more mindful of the way I do things.
Also, amnesty, that it`s ok to toss potentially useful things. Something I still struggle with, but getting better.

I've learned to stop looking at everything in one lump sum, because I get overwhelmed, and then I back down. This has not only helped me with cleaning but in simple tasks that I need to do. I've also learned that "doing it now" as opposed to putting it off, is the way to go!

I've learned that there are many others that have the same difficulties as I do. I can ask for advice from the folks on SOOS and, first of all, I know I will get understanding and, secondly, I get answers that I can relate to and that are really, truly helpful to my situation.

""* that every minute you put into cleaning is worth it"" ---- I like this. I don't live it, but I like it. I have also realized that while inspiring, reading and writing about clearing out clutter isn't the same as actually doing it.

I've learned that I am NOT alone, and that no matter how little you get done, as long as you accomplish something, it's a step in the right direction, and someone will be there to tell you Good JOB!!
