This is something I have resistance to. Maybe subconsciously I don't want anybody to come over? I just don't know why I resist cleaning my table so much. I did it in 3 parts yesterday. The table naturally has 3 parts, I think the middle piece can come out. I cleared away clutter, threw away garbage and wiped the table down with a soapy towel. No more crumbs or pet hair. Ah, but I must admit it's cluttered already. I'll make a conscous effort to clear it off before dinner.

great job momof3boys!! The table is a huge problem spot for me too, I did well at keeping my table empty for about a week, then we did laundry, and i got the great idea in my head to use it to put clean folded clothes on it while i was looking for clothes for dd for school.... that was 2 weeks ago, and the clothes are still there, along with all of the quilting stuff i brought back from a retreat i went to last weekend, AND my tabletop ironing board that i was using for the wall hanging i'm working on... guess i should probably attack that today huh?

The table is just such a convenient spot to set things down "for right now." Congrats on your persistence in working until it was all cleared off - parts 1, 2 and 3!

Fantastic!
Decorating my table has helped me keep it clutter free. When it's pretty I don't want to clutter it up. Mine tends to collect kids' toys and artwork, which I have to clear off several times per day.
I've also found that vast empty spaces just beg for me to fill them up with stuff, especially if they're a solid light color. My old master bathroom had double sinks with a huge white counter in between them. For a while I kept that counter clear by putting a pretty placemat on it. I had something to look at that wasn't barren and white, but it looked pretty and uncluttered at the same time.

I keep my dining room table set for meals at all times. Table cloth, dishes, silverware, etc. This has been the only way to keep it from becoming a repository for stuff.
I have been there with the piled high dining table. It was a hard habit to break. But it can be broken.

Eagle how do you keep the dishes clean? if I set the dishes out there would be dust on them before I ever used them....I guess you eat at the table all the time...me nope...I rarely eat at my table but I do have a clear table as I am in maintenance. I am happy for Momof3boys that she got it cleared off...keeping it that way may take some efforts if you use it all time for dropping off stuff...that is not my clutter area now as it is in last room entered into in house now from front door....

YAY! This has always been a hot spot for me. When I moved, I removed the leaves and made it as small as possible and it has helped keep me from cluttering it up. Defend your table!!

Hurray to you for cleaning your table. I cleaned mine and it took me forever!! I had to go through every cabinet to find the room for it all. Everything that I kept that is.Defend, defend ,defend this area. It is a hot spot !! It might take 21 days to correct this piling. Someone else might put something on it. Try not to kill them!!
