I'm AngelinaHedgehog, and I've been part of this group since 2001 on the now-defunct boards at juliemorgenstern.com.
The worst of my squalor was probably in 1998 or 1999. I was in second degree squalor, but I never lost the use of anything for very long. And I flirted with 3rd degree a few times.
I moved into a much larger apartment in 2000, and that helped me a lot. I vowed that I was not going to mess the new place up like the old one, and I didn't. In 2001, I looked around and realized that even though things weren't anywhere near as messy as they had been, they weren't all that noticeably improved, either, so I went looking for ideas online.
For some reason, I looked up "filers and pilers" and found a thread where a woman named Celeste had offered some thoughts. I wanted to read more by her, so I clicked around and found a thread started by someone named Kimmy.
In 2007 I downsized to a much smaller apartment (not much larger than my first apartment, really, but better laid out), and things are fairly functional. If the superintendent needs access, I don't worry, because I know he'll be able to get to what he needs to get to with minimum fuss.
I'm in maintenance for most things at this point. I have to say it's a rather nice place to be.

What an inspiration, I too hope to be in maintenance mode and feel the freedom you have achieved! BTW, I own a hedgie named Madge, do you have any?
