I would like to get the same kind of feeling* I get from "retail therapy" from chuck/recycle/donate/ re-sell therapy. It feels really good when I have something that is extra or double and it goes to a friend or acquaintance who would like it. I do not have much experience with re-selling. Am quite hessitant there. We recycle and donate where we can, but that doesn't feel as good as I keep hoping it will. I want the good feeling some minimalists talk about when they see empty spaces. Thus far I only get that good feeling from the temporary decluttered surfaces I create, but DH (or yours truly ) always manages to undo. *I really do need that dopamine-fed feeling.I really identify with this --- except that *I* undo my own temporarily cleared spaces!

I went to about 15 yard sales today and took the 9 year old with me, we had a great time and apurchased: a set of bowls for her to give her grandmother for Mother's Day, a small trinket box with an L on it for her to give her sister, a new Jenga game, (the dog chewed some pieces of ours and it's a game everyone likes) and a pair of shoes for one of my dolls. THAT IS ALL!!!! Then we stopped and got a good for us breakfast and I stuck to my diet all day on a SATURDAY!! Later we went to look at a house that my friend and her boyfriend are considering purchasing. All I can say is WOW!!!!! It is an awesome house.

Today I have the option of sleeping in. I LOVE to sleep in, for me a day BEGINS at noon... grumble, it's 7 something AM. I have been getting up at this time to take kiddo to school for so long that now I wake up when I don't want to. Yesterday afternoon I did slip off the bandwagon, I went to WalMart. Most of what I purchased WAS necessary, toilet paper and paper towels and food, but I did buy 2 pairs of shorts that fit and 2 shirts. ARUGGGHH... I did come home and toss out 5-6 more items from my closet. I guess I will have to toss out again today in penance

i romped through stores this evening- michaels- beads were 40% off and i had a coupon for another 15% off. they didn't have what i wanted. they did have the metal spacers i wanted for something else i'd been laying out beads for. huzzah. 89 cents and i can finish a necklace i wanted. helped 3 other women on the shopping rampage find the beads they wanted. ross & tj max- my black purse finally died and i have been looking for a replacement. i will still be looking. there were 2 that were close but not Love. i think i'm on month 3 of looking. entering discounty outlet stores can be dangerous territory. i've given myself permission to look at knit shirts 5 dollars and under since i've tossed close to a dozen over the last few months. there was a teal one but it was too thin. there was a white fluttery one but it would have invited cat attacks and the material was so fragile it would have been destroyed in one wear by the flealions. if money wasn't such a horrible situation i would have gotten it to wear over the summer and toss at fall clean out but i can't justify even 4 dollars that i might as well put through a shredder. and there's a lotion by earth therapeutics with mint and tea tree oil that feels nice on my feet when they burn and it's about half price there, but i didn't need any. so far i've managed the purse, and oh yeah my pocket book is literally falling apart so purse and pocket book search without bringing home anything extra so far. pharmacy- was looking for a retinol cream, price comparing. can get it less expensively elsewhere, and will talk to rheumatologist tomorrow so better to hold off anyway. did get replacement foundation and powder. huzzah fo 40% off and 2 dollars off w/ coupons on top of that. general store-another pack of hand held flossers so i can floss in the car instead of smoke. both are kind of gross to do in public but i might as well do the one that won't give me cancer and will get my teeth cleaner. mints for when i want to smoke but don't want to floss. a pair of white underwear, most of my white ones have met their maker over the last year. There were a bunch on clearance but foraging found one pair in my size that i didn't dislike. and another 5 pair that weren't on clearance when i tried scanning the tag. i hope nobody else likes them and they go on clearance someday. alas undies, you are not worth 6 dollars to me but for 1.80 i really would have liked you. laundry detergent, borax, washing soda, spray starch. 409, i'm skipping the greener cleaners in the jihad against dirt and grease for the time being.
ETA- it's pretty weird to see the list laid out of the weird, to me, array of things i buy. decided i wouldn't record groceries, only things i purchased and didn't use before they got sad.

You're all doing so well!
I posted elsewhere that my new tactic is to not go in a store without a list - written on paper - even if I only have one thing on the list. I think it will be reinforcing to have a piece of paper in my hand with the items listed on it. If it is not on the list before I walk in the door - I don't buy it.
My second strategy is the set an amount of money I can spend, and take only that amount with me. That way, I can't over-spend too badly!
If I spend less than allotted, that money can go in my "rainy day" piggy bank. I think it would be neat to see how much I can save that way. (Maybe I can get my focus and excitement geared toward the challenge of saving, rather than spending.)
Sometimes all my schemes and plans to spend a little less and buy a little less seem almost like the proverbial finger plugging the dam. I wonder if, after I have all these plans for not buying the $1 this or that - cutting back on a little clutter and saving a few dollars - am I REALLY correcting the problem - or at some point will the dam break, and I will spend a few hundred on some absurd unneeded something.
I feel like I will always have this spending problem hanging over my head, like any other addict.

I spend a ridiculous amount on panties... the Commando Pup has made it her goal that EVERYONE in the house goes commando... she eats all our undies. Clean dirty new in the package ... she loves them all and can manage to find them. Latest victim was a new pkg that was shopped and dropped in P.I.L.E. She jumped in a chair to got to the table. It's a good thing we love our furry companions.

I feel for you Di. I'm glad he doesn't destroy them but my cat Jack is intent on taking my underthings. It's a regular thing to see a grey tabby streaking around the place with ribbons and bows flying behind him. Clean or dirty he doesn't care. I was careful to put them away but with the kinds of drawers in the closet he can eventually get them open. I'll wake up in the morning to find him lounging on my robe or PJs. anything with a silky texture.. and of course he's a cat so ribbons are just joy. I'll stop swearing and just be glad he doesn't destroy them now

i forgot to add earlier that i got "box o' files" a miniature box of miniature nail files. i'd worn the one for my purse down to a smooth board and had been looking for an inexpensive & cute replacement and found those on sale. 6 for 2 dollars and adorably cute, huzzah.
today i went to the doctor, then picked up some scripts, got a tube of vaseline, got the lactic acid lotion, and a package of temporary heat packs for the back since i feel like i went through a meat grinder after seeing the rheumy and i have to clear everything off the balcony by 8am tomorrow so they can powerwash and do repairs.

Daye well done for logging all spending Razy well done replacing undies Di well done for resisting temptation at the yard sales sparklehorse I've been putting off buying clothes telling myself I will lose weight first but my daughter said I looked such a mess she couldn't stand it any longer and would buy me trousers so in the last week I've bought.. 2 pairs of work trousers in the sale, 3 holey ones went in the bin. 1 top for work, old blouse went in the bin 1 tea plate with 90% off as it was the last one, just thought it was pretty and I like odd plates I decided clothes in my wardrobe that I never wear will be worn to work to find out why, if at the end of the day I feel a mess or they are uncomfortable they go in the bin or charity shop. I have another issue I hope its ok to share here. Its to do with spending, but not through choice! Over the last year our income has really dropped with the recession and we have to be very careful, its been the biggest wake up call to my spending thats for sure and i've stuck to my budget since. Family all know this, but last month my SIL rings up and asks us to pay towards a expensive gift for my Father in law (she had run it past MIL first who is very clear about our finances), I was so embarrassed, but told her no we couldn't afford it, this week she has booked a meal in a resturant and I get a slip of paper with the time on it and across the top in capitals EACH PAY FOR THEIR OWN. I am really cross and upset, she keeps booking them for events that would be rude for us not to go to, engagements, birthdays, anniversarys. We don't go out for meals and I feel I'm being forced into paying for meals I wouldn't choose. Its going to be at least £60, which to me is a weeks groceries. I have to go to this one now, but it will be the last, have any of you dealt with family doing this? I don't mind them going without us and I don't want offers to pay for our meals, I just hate how its making me feel.
