@dayneau Thanks for your encouragement. At this point I have about 40 trash bags that are full, I figure I can get away with putting out 6 bags for trash collection 3 bags per family allowed. I will be following up with the BoH guy about a trash pick up service. I know I have made progress but I'm wondering what my landlord will think of the state of everything and it makes me anxious, I'm trying not to let it but it does. I plan to be very straight with him, apologize for my neglect and give an explanation, illness and depression. My landlady and landlord are very nice people if they weren't it would be easier to deal with. Thanks as always for your concern. I really loved your post about being overwhelmed and discouraged, you are so wise and you have helped me alot. I hope things are going ok for you

Allwell - Congrats on keeping bathroom clear after all this time! This definitely an accomplishment to be proud of.
I would be following up with the BOH guy EVERY day until you help comes to your door. After all, he is the one who said the bags made it a hazard in your home! And there are clear laws about how much you can put out - otherwise you would have all 40 bags out on the corner tomorrow, I'm sure!
If you have been promised assistance, call the BOH rep EVERY DAY (don't wait after 1 week) and politely ask about WHEN help will be coming - since you are motivated and now concerned about the fire hazard after what he had said. Tell him the number of bags are going up, since you keep working on your place! You don't want to be put on the back burner!
Good luck with the landlord. They will see a big improvement when they come back from their trip, no doubt.
You are amazing! Hang in there.

As other folks said, please never feel like you need to apologise for posting, not posting, moving forward, staying still - no one is judging I agree with OnTheWay, I'd definitely be ringing the BoH chappie every day - it must be so frustrating to not be able to get the trash OUT! Sometimes it pays to be a 'squeaky wheel'

Imagine how your house will look with those 40 bags gone! They are taking up a LOT of your space. It will give you so much room when they are gone!
I just think your landlord and lady will be impressed that you've cleared so much.
Did you say that they remodeled 40 years ago? If that's accurate - rental owners SHOULD EXPECT a lot of wear and tear in 40 years! (If I read the 40 years part wrong, please forgive. I'm posting from my phone, and it's a bit hard to change pages mid-post.)
If it's been that long, they are probably just glad YOU haven't complained!
Take care.

Thanks Dayneanu and downandout for your concern. It seems that after I go through these intense decluttering sessions I need about 2 or 3 days completely away from anything relating to squalor. Actually, everything went incredibly well on Tues. I got up early, 4:30am, and was able to accomplish what I planned to before my landlord was to arrive. As it turned out we chatted in the back hall with my neighbor and apparently he had hired an electrician to install the alarms, so he didn't even come inside my apartment. The electrician installed upstairs then came downstairs just as I had pretty much gotten as far as I had planned to.. He couldn't have been a nicer guy, when I apologized for all the bags he said "no worries" and as it turned out only had to install one alarm in the living room, he didn't even need to go into the bedroom since an alarm had been installed in the outside hall. I left him to do his work and went out to pick up some groceries. I felt absolutely elated! I was so thankful that I had gotten over one more hump and that it was no where near as anxiety provoking as the BoH visit exactly 1 week before. When I returned home it was so nice to see some more the floor boards which had been covered up for so long. Although tired, I was on cloud 9 and began thinking of decorating projects I wanted to do but had put on the back burner for so long. I just collapsed and babied myself for these past few days. I called the Boh guy and he referred me to Elder Services re: trash pick up, I contacted them and got the of the trash pick up service, but I have not called them yet, guess I'm not ready to go through another anxiety provoking time until next week. The current trash bag count is about 50 and I have gotten rid of about 15 during the past 6 weeks. So if all taken in perspective I know I've made great progress. I also know that there is no getting around the fact that having 50 bags of trash hauled away will bring up lots of anxiety as it will remind me once again how bad things had gotten. I talked to the Social Worker at Elder Services about a decluttering support group that will be starting up this summer and also about what I have accomplished lately. I also told him how much all of you on the SoS board have helped and supported me, he told me he would make sure he told clients about SoS.

I am SO HAPPY for you! I am just going to tell you - when those 50 bags are gone, I think you are going to feel like you moved to a new house. 50 bags! WOW! Just WOW! Please do take care of yourself. I know after I have done a bit of work, I slump for a day or two. Coming here, or setting the timer always gets me back on track. I'm just so happy for you!

My goodness... you have really turned your life around, AllWell. I am in awe. Now that you have made so much progress, I hope you can be gentle with yourself and kind to yourself - let the bags go. They are things that you needed once, that have served their purpose, and you have moved forward. Really, you have. Sure, there's still plenty more you want to do, but you are travelling a different road now, where you choose to have things in your house because they are pretty and useful and have good memories associated with them. It's okay to leave the other things behind.

Allwell, any update on your situation? Did you ever get any help after the BOH inspector left?
