I looked to see if this was addressed somewhere and couldn't find it, forgive me if I'm just overlooking it.
A couple of days ago the first box that I get when I click on the smile face to get smileys appears mostly in code, rather in pictures of the actual smileys. Some of them are pictured, but more are in code. If I can guess which smiley I want from the code and click on it, it appears in my final message in code, not as the picture. The second box that I get when I click "more smileys" looks normal.

I have the same issue but they are like little icons of a generic picture, when you hover over them I see the code for them but do not know what it really looks like.
I cannot get them to work when I click on them but I am guessing it is me not knowing how to use them.

This looks new to me, Diane. I do not recall seeing this in the past. For me it just occurred on my netbook, windows 7 in Firefox 22. What is your OS and browser? I do not have an answer for you, but we will follow up and get back to you. Diane BTW, only three smilies appeared in code for me and the extended smilies box was normal (all smilies appeared as icons). Although, as you can see, the 'coffee' smilie above appears as a smilie (well at least in Preview it does; it may appear differently once I post this.)

I'm also using Windows 7, and I'm using Firefox but don't know which version. All but 5 of them appear as code in the first box. The second box (extended box) looks the way it always does, none in code. I'm trying some of the code ones here to see how they look. (Okay, they are still in code in the message.) Diane

Shortofstable, what you're describing is different than what I see, but it's still not what is normal. Normally you see a picture of the smiley just as it will look in your message, you just click on it, and it appears in code in your message as you type it, but when you hit enter and the message appears on the thread, the code has turned into the picture again.

Same here. I don't see anything on ProBoards Support about it. If you haven't given us your operating system and browser version, please do. Support will ask.

I have this same problem on both iMac, running latest versions of both Snow Leopard and Safari, and my iPad, version 6.1.3 I am currently using my iPad and am hoping you will be able to see that some in code show up here as an empty box. Thanks. ::bigwave:

For me in Opera 12.16
There is no smiley icon in the toolbar. At all.
I rarely come to SOS in opera, so no idea how long it's been that way. Also ... note the gear icon is missing and just has words "post options" instead. (the dropdown from the words PostOptions does work properly just like the gear icon works). FYI my skin is "Ladybug"

NOTE ... all of my above posts were from Ladybug skin.-------------------------------------------------- okay, now testing from windows 7, Opera 12.16 in apple blossom skin The smiley icon in toolbar AND the correct gear icon are both there in the toolbar in appleblossom, but not in ladybug. Odd. ============================================= UPDATE no time to post pix but ... in APPLEBLOSSOM ... in ALL BROWSERS (latest chrome, ff22, ie8, and opera12.16) i have a DIFFERENT set of smileys viewable/disabled than i did in ladybug in that dropdown box shown above. In appleblossom, in all browsers, I can see all the smileys except for these three:

I have the Stepping Out! skin. Great observasion, Lion! Yes I had stepping out skin too and got the little boxes for Windows chrome on my main computer and kindle. Tried lavender petals skin and only 3 smilies missing. Orange blossom, spring, pre v2, roses, starfish, tan blocks and snowflake most are missing like stepping out.
