Wanted to say hello, I'm going to get started on turning our lives around.. We are at a level 3, it's making us unhappy, unhealthy, and negatively affecting day to day. I got a book called buried in treasure, it seems pretty good. I think I will take pictures and devote an hour to sorting tomorrow, that's a good first step, right? UPDATE: I sat here and read all your posts for 2 hours, and decided to drink a Dt. Dr Pepper and get something done! 2 giant black trashbags, and 3 hours later, my upstairs bathroom is CLEAN!! I threw away just about everything, it was all so icky. Tomorrow I want to buy a new toilet seat and a new mop (mine doesn't seem to work very well). Also, the pumice didn't get all the buildup off, so I am thinking some lime-away? I did take pics, but not ready to share those yet,

I think that's a very good step! Tomorrow I'm also setting aside some time to sorting, so you're definitely not alone. Good luck!

Hello Clutterpea! Welcome. You made a huge step just coming here and acknowledging it. I know that first step for me was a doozy. Way to go on getting the upstairs bath clean!!! I love limeaway because I hate to scrub and it usually minimized that for me. Keep up the good work. I have not posted pictures yet either. . When you are ready.

Welcome, clutterpea !
You are doing great! The decision, and the work, will get you where you want to go.
Don't worry if you can't share pictures, some of us never do. For some it motivates, for some it is just too scary. Do what is best for you.
It's good to have you here.

Wow, what a great start! W00t w00t! Very impressive!
One rule of thumb that I used for getting deep down crud and buildup off was to give stuff 10 good scrubs. So my nasty tub did NOT get clean the first time that I cleaned it, but by about the fifth time it really looked good. So if there is still some buildup, don't worry about getting it "perfect" on the first go round. You will be scrubbing that area regularly now, and in time it will be clean.
Of course we are all different, so if the slow approach doesn't work for you, that is ok, too. I know that I love "The Works" toilet bowl cleaner to really get the crud out of the toilet bowl. And a cleanser called "BarKeepers Friend" is great at removing other stains on porcelain, especially rust stains.

Way to go! It is very hard to get motivated but good for you for getting that bathroom done. Maybe you can keep the "after" photo taped to the mirror, to remind you each time you are in there to keep it that way? It worked for me after my race against the clock for landlord inspection. It really is overwhelming to look at the mess and get discouraged, but you got over the first hurdle! Reward yourself with something you enjoy. If you can set a plan and try to clean 1 room a week, it will be a lot easier and worth it. Don't try to do too much at once (unless you get that adrenaline rush and feel like you can keep going, which happens)
