Finally cool enough today to stay upstairs and work at my desk today. Had a training to do a demo for a new product line. Precipitated several e-mails back and forth. Made phone calls for demo as well, will have to call store back. Opened a couple of piece of mail, filed a couple of things, made phone calls to coordinate demos for this weekend. Made other phone calls for other business. Found the check for the demo last month. So that's the top layer. Didn't go into the project layer of things like SSDI application or back tax returns. If the weather stays amenable, I'll turn some of my project energy towards these bigger paperwork things sooner. The downstairs sorting can take a break.

Worked 50 minutes on papers for the job, tossed a bit.
Tossed about 30-40 personal papers and 3 magazines, filed some papers, reorganized some.

Hi Serendipity, I recently bought a cheap shredder for $11 (Aldi's), to be used with/on a wastepaper basket. My shredder says "use 1 minute, cool off for 30 minutes" so your data seems to be good. That's sufficient for me. The paper goes through quite quickly, and I can put in up to 6 papers at a time. I can shred a lot in this short time!

Yesterday I did an hour of paper sorting and shredding, and updated my coupons.
For these past months, I've been working at my paper piles in such a random manner that I really have no sense of where things are. I know I've been chipping away at the piles because they are smaller. But I want to focus on just one type of paper, such as medical, and get that in order.
This is merely good intentions again. And good intentions won't get the job done.

I've been following this thread and wanted to share a link. I'm sure the participants in this thread are like me and have read everything you see regarding this problem. So here is one more, written by a person who does not have a problem with paper piles and explains why. Of course the comment section is as informative as the article. How to Eliminate 99% of the Paper Piles in Your Home. Edited to add: Even if I don't post here often, I do want you to know that I read every post in this thread and cheer your accomplishments! "Take care of today's mail + some from the pile." Logically it will eventually be gone.
