I have completed another month of washing the dishes + shining the sink + zapping the sponges twice a day every day. That makes 4 months in a row, chasing Arid's championship record. Yesterday, at the lowest point of feeling despondent about the man who had died in the apartment overhead, I could barely drag myself to get anything done. But the one thing I did unfailingly was to wash the dishes. I very briefly considered letting them go overnight, but then I knew how awful I would feel waking up to a dirty kitchen. I had led the dirty-kitchen life for such a long time... I never want to go down that road again. for all of us who are keeping our kitchens clean and healthy.

So only one side of my sink is usable until my apartment is in a state where I'm not embarrassed to let maintenance in. But still managed to get some dishes hand washed anyway. (dishwasher is also unusable until the necessary repairs are made to the pipes under my sink).

Welcome irisbloom - Making do and getting things done anyway - that's the name of the game imo. I just have the one sink space so my quest is to keep it usable, and keep using it.

Arid and papermoon Its great that you two have proved that its possible to change our ways and maintain a daily habit in the Kitchen, even if that change doesn't happen easily at first. Wanting to change - wanting some order in there - is part of it. I think I've just got to the stage of wanting an everyday habit of washing dishes - no matter what else is going on.

wynken .... good for you! Well they pretty much have to be done here every day with 5 people. I have found if they aren't done in the morning, or at least by lunch time, they may sit and not get done. And then it's catch up. A lot of days though we run our dishwasher twice. I did unload this am and ran after cooking breakfast.

MamaAngie I'm guessing you may need to action dishes perhaps 5-6 times a day, every time anyone eats or cooks, also dw start and empty. etc Going to rinse what I've just used here. Life is much simpler when I do that - and I do believe in hot sudsy water to wash, and not calling rinsed things washed.

Every time the dishes are done, 1 dish appears. And it somehow creates many more. I don't know where they come from.
Well dishwasher has been unloaded again and loaded the few that were out there. Got 8yo to put her dinner dish in right away. Waiting on the other 2 pokey kids to finish eating.

I'm joining the daily dishwashing thread. (I feel like I'm "turning myself in.") I have avoid rd this thread thus far, because I don't want towash dishes. But realized this morning that THAT attitude helps nothing. I still have to wash dishes. I am cooking for four, three full meals a day, and I do ok on dishwashing most days, but I dont really stay on top of it. The kitchen is never actually all clean. Always something left in the sink or on the counter. Fridge usually needs cleaning out. I need to develop a habit or routine. One of my shortcomings is that I keep expecting someone else to put away the clean dishes. It doesn't happen. I need to realize that and just do it myself. After all, putting away only takes minutes. I have yesterday's dishes soaking in the uneven as I write this. I want to keep them washed, it at least loaded in the dw promptly. I also need to carry out the scraps promptly.
