I got home from work a couple of hours ago, so I'm just shy of being up for 24 hours at this point. Yippee, I'll be back at work in less than 12! But the good news is I've had some fun playing with my avatar, . No walk on Sunday, phew.

I had my kefir/potato starch last night, fell asleep quickly, but I woke during the night. Was unpleasantly antsy, wondered if I should get up and exercise, but did fall back asleep. My impression is that I wasn't awake long, but that I was atypically twitchy and miserable during it. So, kefir/potato starch may not be a magical elixir after all, at least when it comes to deep sleep.
I'm primarily using it as a probiotic/prebiotic, but had been looking forward to the sleep side effects people talk about. I'm pretty suggestible when it comes to this nonverbal stuff I don't directly control (like sleep), so if I just "keep believing" maybe I'll sleep better no matter what.
I'm working out a lot (relatively--I was very sedentary before, so my idea of "a lot" may be different than you imagine.) And I'm cutting calories and loosing weight at the moment. I'm also trying to rehab my gut flora, which may have a psychological impact. A lot of changes in my habits of body right now, shaking things up, so it's probably not reasonable to expect perfect sleep.
But the important thing is that I'm maintaining a routine, going to bed at a reasonable time and rising at a reasonable time. And it's begun to feel normal.

... I've never heard that "sleep before midnight counts more"... How is that? The physical body doesn't know that midnight 00 am is the *magical moment* that humans label a new day? That was my thought, too … there was an article that convinced me that there was something to it, though. There was also something about the body going through some sort of "detoxing" process around 11:00 pm that works better if you're asleep … rhythms of daylight and dark working with the human body … you can actually miss out on things that should happen if you sleep at an unnatural time of day. Not so much the exact hours on the clock, which are artificial. I think it's pretty solid science that people who do shift work don't sleep as well, and it affects their health after a while. I read that a long time ago, and would have to re-google now ... Info tidbit: China has one time zone. A country the size of the U.S.A. … one time zone. But getting into bed by midnight is certainly a good goal, and much better than 2:00 or 5:00 … or not at all!

I only got 5 hours of sleep, which is waaaay too little for me. I feel sore all over when I get less than 6, so I hope I can get back to sleep sometime in the next few hours. My schedule messes me up because I work all weekend with less sleep than I really need, all the time, every time.

Adderall is wonder drug for me anyhow. My doctor isn't making money from me. Most of meds are free. This is only drug that works otherwise I wouldn't take it.

I just went for a 60 minutes walk with my dog. And immediately after coming home I put my dog in her bed, removed my makeup, brushed my teeth and put on my PJ's (instead of relaxing by the TV first, like I usually do...). So now it's 11.25 pm here and I'm ready for bedtime already, a lot earlier than usual lately! Goldstar for me My plans now are just to go to bed right now, not browse on my phone in bed, and I hope to fall asleep by 00.15-00.30 if I'm very lucky... larataylor - I hope you'll be able to fall asleep quicker this night... I'll cross my fingers for you! cyn I hope you'll be able to get some proper sleep! lostchild I understand your view . - Good luck with your sleep rythm this weekend!

Pauline - you have a real challenge with that late-night karaoke being an important part of your life. I've been thinking I could manage my weekend-night problem with a short nap around noon to make up for staying up later, and keep my wakeup time always, always, always the same. But it's hard. By noon I'm always busy doing stuff and don't want to stop. Before noon is too much like going back to bed in the morning, and I could sleep for hours. Too much later would mess with getting to sleep that night. I think between noon and 1:00 would be the magic window, but I have not been able to do it yet. I could try to do that..... get a nap between noon and 1 pm and get up in the morning, but that is almost impossible for me to do. I have fibromyalgia and even though I can tell myself to get up that early, my body just won't co-operate. But I need to try to go to bed by 10 pm on other nights. Obviously, I haven't been able to do it except for last night....I went to bed at 9:30 pm I was so exhausted! Tonight, I hate to say I'm going to bed right now and it's 1:40 am. Okay.....tomorrow is another day!

I got to sleep late again, but made sure my phone alarm was set for 6:00. I don't know if the phone is being funky (it often is) or if I just slept right through it, but I woke up at 10:00 again. Argh, I'm so mad.
I haven't been doing some of the things I know I should do, like getting 30 minutes of sunshine and exercise. So I need to actually DO those things instead of just putting them on my list. And another school week is coming, so that will help straighten me out, too.
I probably should not have taken the teens out to the dollar store. I should not go anywhere in the evening … just focus on winding down after dinner. But I hate to say "no" to my beloved teens.

Sleeping right through mobile phone alarms that is soooo easy larataylor. I put on multiple alarms each morning (about 10, ). - The first 3 alarms being low and "soft" ones (birds chirping, slow piano tunes, calm alarms)...I often sleep through them or turn them off without thinking, and then the next 3 being medium loud alarms, and the last 3-4 LOUD alarms. And it doesn't always work, but usually the loud ones get me up (unless I "disable" them after I hear the first soft ones, which I occationally do, and then fall right back to sleep ) TRACKING MY IMPROVEMENT FOR WHEN I GET UP IN THE MORNING:- Thursday, October 9th: 09.15 am - Friday, October 10th: 08.55 am (20 minutes improvement ) - Saturday, October 11th: 08.37 am (18 minutes improvement ) - Sunday, October 12th: 08.30 am (8 minutes improvement ) - Monday, October 13th: 09.03 am (33 minutes of deterioration ) So this morning I lost part of my progress. "Not good", yet I know that I maybe needed this extra sleep, I feel asleep around 02 am this night, so I barely got 7 hours of sleep which is "OK" sleep, but it was not the best quality of sleep either...that's why I overslept I guess.

Yesterday I noticed that the phone was stuck again … the clock just stops. I have to restart the phone to get it going again. So it does this unpredictably, and I can't really count on it. The alarm does not go off if the clock is stuck. The only alarms we have are the three cell phones. So getting more is a money issue. DH has been staying up pretty much all night, and does not want his alarm set for 6:00. DD is off school today, but gets up a little later than I want to on school days. Maybe I could borrow one of their phones to get me up … seems like the only thing to do. DD wants a new phone, too … but she wants a more expensive one that actually does things … she texts a lot, and wouldn't want to do it my way!
This morning I probably just slept through the alarm because the phone had the correct time when I woke up at 11:00. Again, I went to bed at a pretty good time, but could not sleep. So I've been off schedule for three nights/mornings … not as bad as before, but pretty bad.

Those phone alarms would *never* wake me up. Someone's went off at work the other day, and it made me laugh to think that was even called an alarm! What a delicate little sound! I need harsh and loud - even the radio setting won't work, no matter how loud, with me. I've been know to sleep through my dog's barking too, if you can imagine. Thunderstorms won't wake me either.
I did the 5:30 walk this morning, and then went back to sleep until 10. I do want to stay up and take advantage of the day, but since I was so sleep deprived over the weekend I thought my body would be happier with those extra hours. I feel much better!

cyn - I think getting up early and going out for a walk is awesome, and will help reset your body clock even if you did go back to bed … especially if you keep it up. Sometimes I have a choice between dragging through the day getting nothing done, or taking a nap and then being productive. Not ideal either way.

Bed was 1:30a.m. My daughter went to sleep way earlier and son early too. I just can't seem to stop. Waited to for exhubby who said he was coming over then didn't.

Got to sleep late, but got up at 6:00 with my alarm, which actually worked this morning! Did some housework already.
