CC, I had a year's worth of neglected hard water buildup completely covering the surface of my toilet. It could have given people nightmares - it was solid black/grey all over! I couldn't penetrate that with the cleaner I had (which I buy direct from Swish, it's a serious descaler if used properly - meaning, not once a year, lmao) and so what I had to do was use a flat razor blade and chip up from underneath, to pry it off. I also used a screwdriver to chip away at it. It can be done! Make sure to wear protective glasses in case the blade breaks (mine did several times) and don't get all rammy and allow the blade to contact your finger - I did, and got an infected cut, yuck. I'm now using the product every few weeks, to keep ahead of the game. Good luck with yours!

cyn, i'm so glad you got your figurines all washed and that hubby's gift of the birds turned out to be beautiful under all that yukky nicotine! WTG on getting them all clean and sparkling again!
reb, how's it going with the de-mousifying? congratulations on your adorable feral ninja hunter cat - your descriptions of her make me laugh. you are gaining on the situation - soon all the mice in your neighborhood will know about that lil' hunting machine and they'll set up house somewhere else.
cyn and sue5000, thanks for giving me a plan of attack on the toilet! i will try the CLR stuff first, since i have some - and get the razor blades ready. come to think on it cyn, i have used a kitchen knife before. this isn't TOO bad but it is an ick! will do today and report.
new ICK for today: bathroom floor has steamed-in dustbunnies and cat hair on floor. ewwwwww. how to deal with this? roll of paper towels and try not to gag? i don't think i wanna look at this stuff on a rag - strong gag response!

cyn that's so awesome that there were pretty colors on those figurines after a good washing. Glad DH sees your effort and you are being rewarded.

I cleaned a major ick yesterday in my db's rental. The fridge was totally nasty with about a half an inch of dried on goo under the drawers and the drawers and every shelf were greasy, nasty dried food, dried labels, etc. It took 4 hours, gallons of hot soapy water, a tub of mechanic's hand cleaner and it is now clean, but not food clean. It is clean enough to wash with a clean rag and hot soapy water. I did not have extra rags so I will have to do that later. I was pretty proud of myself that I did not give up. I had to put on the mechanic's hand cleaner, wait, put a hot soapy rag on an area, let set, remove the rag, scrape off the goo and wash the remaining ick.

cyn - your birds remind me of all the Hummel figurines I found in this house. They looked like a bunch of children from the coal mines. My in-laws didn't smoke, but used their fireplace a lot. I scrubbed many of them, and they came out really nice. More to go, when I have time for that.

Wow, amazing work imamess! Yes, when you can keep going all the way to the bitter end, it does feel like a real victory! Glad you were able to do so.

Ok, who wants to get pee out of carpets with me today? Anyone? Hmmm??? C'mon, it'll be fun! I'm going to go have a coffee and then fill up the carpet cleaner - you're going to be *very jealous* when I'm posting about how nice my carpet looks without the big yellow stains on it, and how much more pleasant it is to play games with the dogs in the living room, once the horrible disgusting odour is gone.

Sounds like a fabulous ICK project cyn, with lots of rewards at the end! I don't have carpet anymore, thank goodness but I could do with a better wiping down of the floors upstairs where the lambs are spending the night. They aren't potty trained (they can't be) so I lay out towels al over and quickly wipe up when they go. But I doubt it's been as thorough as needed.

Ah no, but how about I join you to de-mousify the cupboard I missed and chuck out the dead mouse in there? I am having nightmares about it.

Oh dear reb! I wish I could help you with that mouse. I am blessed with absolutely no squeamishness regarding rodents and such. Although the rats in the barn are getting a little too populous for my comfort. Good luck, you can do it!

Oh angela, lambs in the bedroom?! That would be *awesome* you lucky duck! Who cares about clean floors, when you can have lambs instead!!! Not me!!!
Reb, I might as well take that dead mouse off you hands, and add it to our pile. Yup, DH is in charge of disposing them over the back fence, but he's leaving their carcasses in a box on the porch. He might be trying to send them a message? IDK, I asked him to dump the box once before and he did. Since he hasn't dumped the latest ones caught, he might as well dump yours while he's at it.
I'll have to add my carpet cleaning to the 'imperfect job' thread, rotfl. I gave up after 3 different batches of clean water, and it was still brown. I must have gone over the stains a few dozen times each, too...maybe I'll splurge on a professional cleaning, since the area that doesn't get any traffic under the couch is a really nice looking carpet - unlike the rest of the room, ugh.

Yup, lambs in the bedroom! I'm sorry the carpet cleaning didn't go as well as hoped. Yeah, sometimes, the big machine is needed. Was the wash water running clear and the carpet was still brown? Or the water was still brown after three batches?

Unfortunately, the damp carpet is still showing yellow when I rub a paper towel over it. Ewwww! I guess I can camp out on this thread, and keep doing it over and over and over...
The water was still brown, but I have to leave soon so I wanted the fan blowing over it for a while before I left. Oh well, I got a start on it, at least. ICK!
