Hi, I used to be a member on the Squalor Survivor's forum (username Holunder), but have not visited for a long time. I'm glad I have (re-)discovered this board today! Things have been very up and down for me, mainly down at the moment! We're having some major work done on our house (double storey extension - bigger kitchen, new bedroom), and as is usually the way with these projects, it's taking a lot longer and is a lot more disruptive and messy than I expected... We're having some work done in every room of the house (new insulation etc) and have had to empty each room at a time, cramming everything into the remaining rooms. The house was messy and cluttered to start with, but it is sooo much worse now. At the moment we can't use our living room at all, we can hardly open the door because there is so much stuff in it. The dining room is almost ok, the other rooms are all a bit of a disaster. There is just so much stuff. I don't know where to start. We're also still waiting for some windows and doors to come and the heating is not working yet, so it's damp and cold. I do try and remind myself that in the grand scheme of things it's not really that bad and that so many people in the world are living in worse conditions, but I do find it depressing and demoralising. Yesterday I spent most of the days in tears and have come closer to a panic/anxiety attack than I ever have been. I'm feeling better today and have resolved to get some more work done - but then again, I alwasy resolve to get something done but that doesn't mean it's going to happen... Anyway, I've done a few things already - the under-stairs cupboard (the source of a lot of the 'stuff' in the living room ...) is now ready to use again. I've taken a low shelf unit out of the barn, cleaned it and put it under the stairs, ready for use. So maybe that's what I'll do next (well, after lunch ) - continuing to put things back under the stairs. Very neatly and well-organised of course. I'm looking forward to using this forum and have been pleased to recognise some familiar names. I have found the old forum really useful, particularly listzilla.

Welcome back! Just remember, it all happens one item at a time. Try your hardest not to be upset over your house now, it can't be helped much (well, the repairs and things can't, the squalor CAN! ) And start with the area under the stairs, that sounds like it would be a great, manageable, easily contained area amongst the rubble. Remember, just take one step!

Welcome back, blue! Yes, renovations are really traumatic and it makes everything so much messier. You have the right idea, though, tackling it one manageable area at a time. You can make it so much better, and then you will feel better. Here's a "let's hope the renovations are done soon" hug for you.

Welcome back, bluecalypso !
Renovating a house while trying to live in it is miserable, so you have my sympathy. I hope all the work turns out just as you want it.
Meanwhile, pull up listzilla if it inspires you and keep going. You are off to a great start.

Ugh, reno hell, I feel for you! Maybe you remember the begining of my bathroom reno back on the old board, well, the landlord is in legal dispute with the builders and we're living in a bomb site, or that's what it feels like, since april. And it's difficult to clear up the clutter clutter when there is building work clutter left all around too. My lounge is full of the boxes and furniture that should be in the hall, but can't go back till the work is finished. Good luck with your reno!

I'm so glad that you are back, Holunder/Blue Calypso! Sounds like a mess from the renovations, but won't it be lovely when it is done?!? Welcome back.
