I'm tackling the kitchen next now almost all of my disaster of a room is done. I'm thinking I have far 2 many dishes. I think that is adding to the mess. I don't wash dishes until I have 2. Perhaps IG I have less I'll be forced to wash them more often. I was like you, I would wait until every single thing was dirty and then some before I even thought about doing the dishes. (ashamed to say months would go by )
Last year I got rid of a lot of dishes. To make it easy I just boxed it all up and put it all on the curb as a freebie and thankfully in my neighborhood freebies go fast.
And even with what I kept I put a lot of stuff "in storage" in the linen closet until I was reformed. I just kept handy in the kitchen the bare necessities, what my friend called my "camping set." Two cups, two glasses, two forks, two plates, 1 skillet, 1 saucepan, etc.
Once I learned maintenance routines I was able to bring things out of storage and even buy a few new things. And now for the most part I am able to keep up, but getting rid of stuff, putting some stuff in storage temporarily, and most importantly learning and practicing my maintenance routines was crucial to getting to this point.
I know it works for some, but I never did the paper plate thing, because an even bigger issue for me than the dishes back then was getting the trash out. I'm reformed in that area now too, but a little over a year ago not getting the trash out was a serious problem.

I'm going to try the "camping" set. Right now I have settings for 10 of formal China and I had 20 but kept breaking them. Its way to many plates for one human.

Hi. It's my first time posting in this thread (which is brilliant, BTW, and you guys are all inspiring!) and my dishes are almost done. I did shine my sink the other day. I love the camping set idea and the Sienfeld calendar thing. Thank you so much for sharing!!!
Dishes were my mom's favorite punishment for us as kids so I learned to feel bad about doing dishes. (9 people, no dishwasher) Now even though I have a dishwasher and I like being in my kitchen I still HATE it. But I did the shiny sink for 3 months once and I was SO happy!! I want to get back into that habit. Anyway, here I am. I'll try to do more dishes tonight.

Hi mssherlock, yes this is a great thread and I appreciate wynken's efforts in helping us stay focused. I had a big push on dishes earlier this week, and things have been staying under control since then, with regular daily washing.

mssherlock . i hope you will find helpful hints here, and share in supporting each other. I think what I like about this thread, we mostly leave our dramas elsewhere, and for the time we are here, its just about getting the dishes washed (or tossed). However it works for each of us. Personally I'm a hands in the sink washerupperer, But there are those with dishwashers who can share how they got over the hurdles encountered there. Last night I got caught on the computer, and in the end just brushed teeth and went to bed. Today I went with a trip away. So I'm tired and have a double helping of dishes. I need to push fluids into me too. I need recycle bin empty and brought in too. Priority - tend to those plus dishes. Get myself to bed soon. Step 1. TV is off. 'chill' music is on. Its late here. Let me have chill. Step 2. bin. make pot of sleepytime tea. get ready to wash up. Sort and stack.

that lot done. Also washed all the easy things. inc I use glass 'placemats' on the table. The cloth is a tea towel, and the glass boards are great for the tea pot, and hot whatevers. The place mats were waiting for a wash too, and now they are dried and back in place. A couple of pots and tonights bowl soaking while I have this cuppa. Waving back to jendela cleanbee and lostchild.
