saffron ... yay for daily action!!! It helps not to be overwhelmed. Repeated babysteps will get you there. "Do things in part acts." Washed up last night, left pot that had sat (with decreasing food) in fridge to soak. Started the putting away - washed pots/frypan are away from the sink.

Way to go saffron! Impressive lists! wynken I have a question about cabinet space below. Thanks for the psa papermoon. "Finish what you start." If I could master that, my life would be so much easier. Wowza at 17 months! Wonderful cleanbee at keeping on top of your dishes.
Here's a question for everyone. What do you put in which cabinet? Like, a cabinet to the right of your fridge or those silly tiny ones above your stove. I have so much cabinet space that I can't use because it's packed full of... crap. So even if the dishes ARE clean, I have trouble finding a permanent home for them. They end up randomly squeezed in wherever. detesposito suggested labeling homes until I program my brain. So, what's been efficient for you guys?
To do tonight
1 load to put away 1 load to wash 2nd load put away

thedreadedknock I have dishes, cutlery, glasses and mugs etc in a hutch near dining room. Plastic containers in cupboard below the draingboard. pots and frypan are currently living on the defunct stovetop. cooking implements are in the kitchen drawers. I've also seen people use pantry shelves for plates. I have one of those stacker/ shelf things so plates of various sizes are accessible there, without taking up a heap of room. Too much crud in cupboards. You and me both.. I need get some things out the door, and the door on one cupboard fixed as a hinge is broken. Really - I'd love that whole set of cupboards replaced. Ideally I'd love those drawers most things can go in. I'm not the kitchen bees knees who knows everything. As you can see if you are still reading. A new thread asking kitchen organisation might wield some helpful answers.

Of course I was still reading wynken! That's a good idea to start a new thread. Probably do it later in the morning because right now I keep getting distracted by SOoS and fb. Trying to keep it down to once an hour. I've wanted one of those plate stacky things. I think it just makes it look more appealing too. Our cabinets are alright looking. Kind of meh. We have a space where the cabinets meet under the bar. There's alot of wasted space in that corner. Enough room to maybe one day put in a carousel. It won't get done but I can dream.

I have learnt something recently. Mostly now the dishes get done every day. I try not to leave any in the sink or on the counter overnight, although they might be washed but still in the drying rack. Recently I have been ill and DH has been in charge of the cooking and washing up. I notice that he always washes up after cooking and after every meal. He never lets it accumulate. So the kitchen always looks clean and tidy. It makes a big difference.
I think I am going to try and copy this when I am better. Meanwhile I also notice that because he is doing that, as I have got a bit more mobile, I don't like to leave dirty dishes out for him if I can wash them up. (Assuming they don't go in the dishwasher I mean).

thedreadedknock: re kitchen organisation - I try to keep things that are regularly used in the cupboards nearest the hob/oven. eg herbs and spices, frequently used pans. I keep things for stirring in a couple of jars on the counter by the hob. For things like plates, cutlery, casserole/baking dishes. I try to keep categories together, like with like, and frequently used things where they can easily be accessed and put away. So I will try to keep all the serving plates and bowls in the same place and likewise with the saucepans/frying pans and lids. The mugs, glasses, teacups and saucers might be in a different place but together.
Heavy things go nearest the ground.
I have those plate stacking things in corners of the largest cupboard.
I have a very large deep drawer under the hob and I have baskets and a cutlery organiser in this where I keep all the random stuff like chopping knives, peelers, potato ricer and masher, measuring spoons/cups, whisks, spatulas and so on. Again keeping it all coralled and together in one place.
So the strategy is to keep things that are used most regularly easily accessible, keep categories of things together as far as possible, keep smaller things in baskets. Heavy things low down and lighter things higher up.

Just a note to get the thread back on track. Its just about the dishes. gathering them washing them putting them away/ using them again. repeat I missed one night, but jumped right back in and got caught up in 12 minutes. This morning it was washing up (dishes) and 3 pots in particular, so breakfast could cook/ and as it cooked. How are you going saffron?

wynken, I'm doing fine. I've been going out to eat with friends, so I have only had a couple of utensils, paper plates, and a mug or two. I'm keeping up. I just didn't post. But, since it is a new month, I'm going to start posting every day even if I get busy, and I'm going to start keeping track of my dish washing success. You know, start a record. I haven't done any more of the old dishes, just kept up on the current ones.

Great work getting to dish washing maintenance cleanbee. I admit - the mornings with everything in the kitchen ready to go are so much easier.

I give up. Dishes really are my downfall. I'm going to join this thread hoping it helps. I have a huge backlog and nowhere to put all my containers. I have to do something. I can't take the mess anymore.

This is good advice. Daily action builds habits, and don't break the chain. To catch up, there's a stack of dishes on the right counter, three pans on the stovetop, and several items hiding in the oven.

Welcome jean. The is a good start as its telling you its time, and you are sick of it. saffron - Mark the calendar and post here when you can. Tell as you get those heaps whittled down. We love to cheer. It will help you to be part of the cheer squad too. cleanbee - Waving to you long term member Encouraging all who post here to cheer each other on. <snip - my vent> My own action - I have a check list in a grid book. But will start a chain here for daily action as well (Using red to salute seinfeld's method) Sept: ~X
