Yes it is. Almost walked away from a few dishes in the sink, although realized that they will be more gross later and that that is how it gets more intimidating......even in just one day or hours sometimes. Dishes all washed up and in drying rack once again

Drying rack again, although it is hard to wash those few that seem like not enough to bother with(almost walked away again)...although really make it possible and manageable to keep them up.

I have to wash dishes by hand right now since my dishwasher has been broken for years and I've just now remembered and started using SOS pads to clean some of the nasty pots and pans. They also work great with just some running hot tap water to wash up one or two items when you don't want to run a whole sink of water. I don't know why I didn't think about using them before, I had them on hand for scrubbing the garbage cans.

Yes SOS pads are great for those baked on tough to clean pots and pans italianlady . Glad you thought of it. Funny how we do not always think of easy solutions right away, although great you remembered them to now use to help with those pots/pans/casseroles. I find I need them with certain dishes too, although am a big fan of soaking dishes for a bit and/or dropping them into a sink of soapy water during the cooking once done OR right away after no longer needed....so that stuff cannot harden as bad(or it it has it can start to soften while I eat or do other things). My dishwasher also has not worked for years, although while I find my mind telling me it is silly to wash up one or two when that is all, KNOW that if I just put them in sink and add a little bit of water at the bottom with some soap....those dishes can be easily washed up right away or in a few minutes leaving my sink once again empty. That little voice that tries talking me and maybe many of us out of washing even those few items as though it is not worth it....is not our friend, as I have found it is what keeps them easy to maintain and my dishes kept up. Your doing great and glad you are using those SOS pads now, as it is tough using a cloth to clean up tougher pans and totally unnecessary to have to use so much elbow grease when there are those pads....as well as makes the job more pleasant with the right tools. I too have forgotten about the SOS and while I have some under the sink, will now try and remember as well!...
Maintenance is so much easier than tackling the bigger piles. They are always going to happen and especially with a larger family, although no way around the dishes. Thanks for the reminder of the right tools and keep up the great work! Good to see you here

Oooh, I should look up dishwashing in the housekeeping book I just bought. It's 884 pages of how to do everything.
I also like to soak my dishes. I even soak glasses that only had coke and ice in them am hour or so ago. It's sort of procrastinating and makes me feel like I'm actually doing something. I'm in maintenance too and sometimes it's just so hard to get up and keep doing the same things over and over but that's kind of the goal of it, isn't it?
My mother used to have one of those little sponges with the hollow handle you fill with soap so you could just wash one or two things without even running a sink of water. I used to have one too but I keep forgetting to buy one.
I like washing with a dish rag. An old towel I've cut up or something like that. I've been using sponges because my daughter likes them better and she has been doing the dishes lately. It's her chore now. I found I do need to keep several rags or sponges around because somebody in the house has gone and gotten washcloths and used them to wash the dishes with before. Nobody will admit to doing it but its there in the sink with nothing else around, smelling like dish soap. It gets the dishes clean but it ends up making the washcloth smell like grease at times. It's a gross feeling to start washing your face and suddenly smell oil you fried stuff in.
I wonder why swiffer hasn't made a dish sponge yet.
