Hi dishwashing support group Dishes are one of my biggest challenges in keeping the house clean: I've got a table/counter/floor backlog and I want to get rid of it! I thought a good way to do "small but steady" woulkd be to use the "eliminate the edvidence" principle and add a plus. In other words, clean whatever I dirty for the day and add a few more dishes while I'm doing those. So today I've washed my breakfast & lunch dishes plus I did enough more dishes to fill the rack (a small amount of supper dishes were made after that and are in the sink "to-do"). If anyone's tried something like this and has tips/warnings/advice I'd welcome it! Hmm, random extra waving smilies appeared below for some reason. I feel like Oprah: Waves for everyone!

welcome mse That's a great system to use, washing today's dishes and a little more. Arid famously used a plus one method to catch up, and to create a daily habit of washing the dishes. She is one of this groups esteemed graduates. Dishes washed here today.

Yes; mse--that's *EXACTLY* what I did!! It took me **2 MONTHS** to work through my "backlog" that way, but I did it!! Since not washing all of each day's dishes each day was what got me into my situation in the first place, there were days when washing all of a day's dishes plus **1 fork** from the backlog was all that got done. (Some days, I was able to wash several "extras," as you are doing.) *That's* why it took me so long. However, in doing this this way, I taught myself the habit of washing the dishes daily--whether I wanted to or not! !! Now, on the very, very, very (did I say "VERY" enough?!!) rare occasions that I don't/can't wash any or all of the dishes on a given day, I wash **ALL** of them--plus, all of the next day's dishes--at one time. I don't take 2 months to get "caught up!" You can do it!! The "key" simply is to "keep at it." Best wishes to you, and welcome to the board. Arid P. S. This "method" works well for conquering "Mt. Washme" (i.e. "Laundry Mountain"), too. A. P. P. S. In all fairness, I should add that I've changed my cooking habits, too. I no longer *allow* myself to cook and cook and cook, resulting in "everything in the kitchen dirty." If, for example, I make a loaf of bread, I don't *allow* myself to make a pie, too, until the bread "mess" is cleaned up. Granted, the oven still would have been warm for the pie, but I find my life goes much more smoothly if I break the baking (and clean up!!) into two separate sessions. (Also, this way, I've eliminated the "I'm too tired" excuse for not washing the dirty dishes that I've generated with my baking.) A.

Thanks Wynken! Glad to hear someone's already successfully tested out the strategy, Arid! Some of my dishes may or may not be older than two months already but since it's old dry dirt not moldy ickiness I'm ok with taking it slow. I have the opposite problem to your bake too much situation: I don't love to cook so if I'm low on clean dishes and prep space, it's an easy excuse not to make good homemade meals. Having clean space makes me more willing to do the work! (And then I get to enjoy the tasty results) Now to go work on today's kitchen stuff... P.S. Thumbs up to everyone who's trying to tackle dishes today!

Washed yesterday's dishes plus a few more. I've been putting the daily dishes in the sink so I know which are today's todos (it helps because it's small and measureable instead of just randomly grabbing from the whole overwhelming pile that's been sitting there forever). The progress is slow but it's there!
