Swampy and I are having a party tomorrow, and I'd like to invite anyone else who'd like to come! This is a very special party - it was swampy's idea - and I *love* it! I'm having a terrible time parting with my things. Swampy was kind enough to match my stuff, and came up with the idea that these items can have a great time together in the landfill, having a party together. Yes, this is a great idea! Why not let our old used birthday candles hang out together, and party in the landfill? It's got to be better than sitting in a box, never to see the light of day - along with my thousands of other things. It's not like I can donate used birthday candles...or even reuse them myself, not on a cake anyhow. They were licked clean, 20 odd years ago. I know they'd look fabulous on a Barbie Candelabra, and maybe they'll find one in the landfill. Anyone else hanging onto these treasures? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Edited, to turn this rockin' Landfill Party into a weekly event! Yay! BYOB stands for "Bring Your Own Banishables" We can all get together at the landfill, unite our unwanted junk, and then let the party begin! Whoo hoo! If you see something someone else is tossing, and can match that item, you get an extra treat bag.

OK, my candles are all set for the party! I'm also bringing old kitchen utensils (with rust on them) and fancy silver cake decorating leaves. On to find more cool items...

Yay, ohblondie's coming! I have many pens to befriend your pens. I'm bringing ribbons, papers, dried moths and butterflies - saved, but now freed. I *love* the "fill all the seats on my party bus" comment! Yeah, I want a roof rack too!

cyn thanks for starting this thread. Glad to see ohblondie and Warrior Kimmy are joining us. My candles are ready to go, along with some used helium balloons. In honor of kimmy, i m adding the box my water filter came in, the box from my new slippers, some jewelry gift boxes. Taking a table lamp to donate tomorrow too. Also some miscelleanous trash. Some musty and mildewy books too. Yes, i think i can do those (finger crossed, those will be hard).

How about some used wrapping paper to go with the spitty candles? I have a box full!

Alright, this party's really taking off! I'm matching Kimmy's mobile phone box. I'm *so* loving this matching game - it's very motivating to pick through all the treasures, and find the pairs. And then part with them, ha! I don't have anymore bags, or ugly quilt covers, or balloons. But I do have a multitude of books, many are musty, so I might be able to part with some...maybe...YES, we'll be strong for each other, swampy! Does anyone want to match my rusty kitchen utensils? Sue, that's a wonderful score - I have lots of used wrapping paper too! Adios!

I an sending the tissue that "someone" stupidly saved from Christmas gifts with the ridiculous idea of reusing it. Really? When nice fresh new tissue is $1.00 per package!!! Someone around here STILL lapses into "hoarding mentality" (Di whistles and shuffles her feet)

cyn, paperback books especially can infect each other with decay. Finding and discarding musty pairs actually helps to protect your remaining books.

Di, thank you for telling me that - I didn't know. Yikes! Now we have a good reason to part with them, that'll definitely make my decisions easier, knowing I'm protecting the precious ones. And too funny (argh, predictable) that we all have the wrapping papers & tissues. Not to mention my gift bags stored in gift bags. That must be a grand total of $10 sitting there, rotfl.

It's a festive party! I'll wear my finest fancy frocks - the frayed shorts with dead elastic, and t-shirts with holes and spots.
I knew I was saving them for something!

im going to add a fancy frock too. I put on a clean tank top today. I love it but its shrunk so much in the wash that it barely covers the essentials (and i dont mean my belly button). Oh, and the gold metallic sweater i bought long ago for holiday dressup, very pretty and never worn. Di, thanks for the heads up on protecting other books from decay. As sentimental as these are, they are going out today. Now i i could find that 100+ yr old tennyson, that could go too. Its not a first edition and honestly its in horrible shape. two tanks 5 musty, mildewy books and a 3 volume set painter sprayer i used over a yr ago, clogged and never cleaned 3 empty spray paint cans (actually to shed for hazardous waste pickup) clothesline and pulleys unidentifable parts from tools and hardware vinyl baseboard from kitchen (was replaced with wood last year) cyn do i really have to get rid of the unused gift bags? (Swampy pouts, therapist cheers) eta: 5 rolls of wrapping paper rubber mallet, broken

Swampy, just think of all the paper fun they can have together - we could never give them that. They'll just sit out on a pile, getting dustier and dustier, until we're too ashamed to reuse them. I think they want to party! BetsyMarie, that fridge is a big faker - look how clean and sparkly white it is, ha!
