I dropped off a comforter and pair of pants at Goodwill.

Congrats to everyone who has gotten so much work done today! So far today, I have: - showered, groomed & dressed - made & drunk coffee - started two loads of laundry - cooked & eaten a reasonably nutritious meal - washed (not quite all of) the dishes - taken the garbage out, including the fish that would have been excellent a week ago. - moved the two loads of laundry to the dryers, and started one new load - fed the cat It would be very good for the various living beings around here if I: - cooked and ate another reasonably nutritious meal - cleaned the catboxes - and watered my plants It would also be helpful if I: - got my two loads of laundry out of the dryer when they are done - moved the remaining load of laundry to the dryer - folded & put away the first two loads of laundry - put away the clean dishes once they are dry - washed the remaining dishes, plus any new dishes dirtied tonight - got the remaining load of laundry out of the dryer when it is done - folded & put away the last load of laundry That's probably more than enough for one day.

everyone! What a great start to the week. I hate to admit what I did all day - I caught up on my sleep. But then I got busy and unloaded the dishwasher and did a load of laundry. Ugh, so much for the bedroom plans...I guess I can cut & paste my post in another 12 hours, and just start over? Yup.

Well done Evelyn, you have made great progress. I loved how you have a list of 'helpful' things to do. OK, maybe I will try for some helpful items too. Since my last post I have collected and opened the mail, been for a short walk and purchased some salad items. Next up - do some dishes and kitchen clean.

Great work everyone--even Cyn, who caught up on needed sleep and got a few things done even though coming off of a work-filled weekend. Since coming home from my dog walk I've been just puttering around trying to keep things neat, eating dinner, doing my end-of-day jobs and getting ready for tomorrow--two busy paid-work days in a row coming up. Oh, I also went downstairs to flush the building boiler. I still have to wash some cat food dishes and do the last cat feeding, but shortly after that I'll be getting to bed nice and early. Have a great rest of the night/day, everyone! Diane

Well done Evelyn, you have made great progress. I loved how you have a list of 'helpful' things to do. OK, maybe I will try for some helpful items too. Thanks, jendela. I started off with "absolutely must" and "really ought to," but - well, I'm not sure if it was that I don't find those phrases very inspiring, or if I'm just really tired of writing lists with those same old words at the top. Since my last post I've: - finished all three loads of laundry - sorted the clean laundry and hung up the clothes that needed hanging - started on dinner by putting some chicken into the oven to bake (I even dolled it up with some herbs & stuff) - and taken an apparently much needed nap It would still be very good for myself and other living things around here if I: - cooked something besides just the chicken for dinner - cleaned the catboxes - and watered my plants It would also not be at all unhelpful if I: - put away the clean dishes once they are dry - washed the remaining dishes, plus any new dishes dirtied in the course of dinner preparations - folded & put away the clean laundry (but those things may very well not get done tonight)

Diane, I hope the two busy days coming up go smoothly. Good work for getting your preps done tonight rather than waiting until tomorrow. Hope to see you again soon.
Hi Evelyn, what a great idea to re-phrase in that way, and well done for getting so much done.
Since I last posted I have done a major grocery shop and put all purchases away. Kept working on getting trash ready for this week's collection. Visited library to return all overdue books.
Next up: It would be helpful if I put the clean dishes away and did some more work in the kitchen.

Next up - sleepytime tea. I am getting ready to wind down for the day.

Evelyn, I also love how you've reframed your "to do" lists. Much kinder and less guilt-inducing! cyn, sleep is also an important task. jendela, does sleepy time tea actually work? I often don't sleep well and have been pondering some sort of tea at night. OK, I'm working today and got up at 5:30 am. Drinking coffee and feeding the dogs and letting them out to roam the yard is a given. I also rounded up some recycleables. Trash out to the curb. Moved all my canned goods from the (small) pantry and put them in a separate cabinet shelf so they'll be easier to glance through. Still ignoring kitchen counter tops. But the water meter guy will be here Friday, so I have until then... Can I take a moment to whine about weather? It's 15 degrees F and we are supposed to get freezing rain later. I know, it's Michigan and we get winter, I get that. I actually like winter. But this has been the second brutal winter in a row. I'm really over it now. Thank you for allowing me to whine for a moment!

Stevie, you can whine all you want - I'm putting up with -16C (a whopping 3F) atm - and yup, Canadians are supposed to be used to this...but not for freaking forever! Where the *heck* is our spring??? Congrats on your Friday appointment! And congrats to everyone, for all your hard work! Ok, let's try this again: I have a few things to remove from my bedroom. Now *there's* an understatement! I have 2 book cases filled, and another small one on top of my dresser, that I want to reorganize (incl. moving books to other room, which means parting with an equal amount so that they fit - or make a huge stack for my cat to knock over, hmm) plus 2 plant stands. Then I want to do something really weird: I want to clean the furniture. How bizarre! Too bad I can't use any products, but after my dog's seizure I'm afraid to use anything other than hot water and soap. Aww, no lemony Pledge...oh well.. I also have a meeting at 3pm today. I think my neighbour wants a visit this afternoon, too. Maybe I was too ambitious with yesterday's plans, and just thinking of all that work tired me out? , I got more sleep during that nap than I did on either previous nights - no wonder I slept the day away! Ugh! But I'm going to start the project differently today. I'm going to strip the bed and wash that, and then clean the mirrored closet doors. Maybe the clean will spread onto the bookcases? That'd be nice!

Good morning, I'm just stopping by to say hi, since today is busy--I'll be happy if I just keep things orderly by the end of the day. Cyn, bring your book sorting books out to where your neighbor will be visiting, tell her you're sorting and you hope she doesn't mind if you continue. You can have a nice conversation about your favorite books while you're visiting! Diane

What a difference 2 hours makes! It's now a balmy -8C (17F) and my bedding is in the wash. I went the extra mile and pained the gouges left on my wall and now my bedroom looks a million times better. Yippee! The bookcases are calling me, and now that the walls look so nice, I'm actually noticing all the smears on the mirrored doors. Wow, I was only going to clean them because I knew it'd been a while - now I *have* to clean them because their grossness is standing out. Duh!

Diane, my book sorting is *very* easy: I just have to check all the fiction and pile it into 'read' and 'unread' piles. For some reason, I see books there that I know I've read, but somehow missed on the last go-round. I'm not allowing myself to hoard these - this was a plan I started many years ago, when I'd find sooooo many books at the thrift store 5/$1 and after I'd read them I'd take them to the nursing home that I visited with my darling Therapy Dog (RIP my sweetheart) but before that, I'd have literally hundreds of paperbacks stacked in my bedroom - they even spread into the hallway. it was quite the sight!

Congratulations to Cyn, whose avid desqualoring efforts have raised the local temp 8 C/14 F (I'm sure I read that right - why do you ask?). Don't know if Stevie's desqualoring can fend off freezing rain, but there is one way to find out... Weather here in Seattle is showery with a high of 55 F, and a 100% chance of diesel fumes and maddeningly intermittent jackhammering. My apartment complex is repaving the parking lot and replacing all the sidewalks, and so of course they have to remove all the old asphalt & concrete first. They've been at it for a week now, and I don't know what on earth could left for them to still be jackhammering at. (But, apparently, they do). I abandoned desqualoring early last night in favor of sleeping like (very tired) gangbusters, so this morning's list looks a lot like last nights: Useful things I might choose to to today include: - making coffee - making a decent breakfast - showering, grooming & dressing - cleaning the catboxes - watering my plants - putting away the dishes I washed yesterday - washing the dishes leftover from yesterday - and folding & putting away the laundry I washed yesterday This afternoon, I'm going over to my mom's to help take her garbage cans out to the curb (she's 85 and has some nasty back problems), and I may well find myself loading her dishwasher and doing some of her laundry (and being taken out to dinner at IHOP or somewhere - it's not all drudgery).

cyn, yes indeed it is colder where you are - glad you got my whine and it warmed up! . Warmed all the way up to 45F here, I guess the freezing rain will be tonight, but it's all good. A month ago we were in the 20-30 below territory, so there is improvement. I had to laugh at Evelyn's interpretation of your last post. Well played. m'am! And 'grats on cyn's new computer. I had a very productive day at work. Before I left, I decided to take a baby-steps approach to my kitchen counters Dreaded Task and while they are nowhere near gorgeous and tidy, I reduced the clutter thereon by at least 20%. I'm beginning to realise that part of my paralysis is due to perfectionism: I feel that if I can't tackle something and have it come out utterly perfect, I may as well not bother. Which is the absolute opposite of how I am (my "public" persona) on the job, where I tend to be quite organised, anal-retentive and a bit OCD about doing everything just. perfectly. right. Somehow I guess I do not believe that I and my personal surroundings are worth the same self-regard. That's sort of...well, something I need to change. (Or as Evelyn would put it, something useful I might choose to change today.) But! I broke a barrier today with my kitchen counters. Progress, not perfection. My bathroom just makes me so happy right now. It's now mostly clean, with cute things on the wall and clean lace curtains. My fridge, which I recently finished cleaning and organising, also makes me happy. Shiny, crud-free shelves, no science experiments, everything sort of clean and shiny. My house is still a hovel, don't get me wrong. But now it has some clean, bright spots. Thank you guys, and thanks to this forum.
