I looked out the sliding glass door at the porches today (there are two connected by a door) and was sad it was such a mess and there was nothing I could do about it. Then I figured I could at least sweep up the leaves. Next thing I know I have another Project going!
Accomplishments as of this morning:
swept up leaves in front of door watered container plants swept up glass shards from back right corner
threw out: 3 sun-yellowed plastic shelves 2 plastic trays off the top of the sideways mattress grotty paper bag that was half under the sofa contents of a wastepaper basket pink plastic birdcage cup a bunch of small bits of mosaic glass grotty pencil grotty tennis ball piece of soap
found: a missing cat bowl a missing coffee mug
moved: larger pieces of mosaic glass into safer containerized storage a birdhouse
still pondering: glass cutter and wet saw : want to keep but where? Need replacement blades for both shawl I found out there: too ribbony to machine wash but it's not coming in until it's washed. Hand wash? Just let it go and toss it?
will ask for help with: throwing out old catbox and the area rug it's sitting on discuss throwing out weird endtable thingy made from giant plastic cable reel holders (!) discuss the lumber stacked up in the corner, if it can go in the shed or something
GOAL: The cat hasn't been allowed on the porch since spring due to the fact it was too hot out there over the summer, and there was glass and stuff. My goal is to at least get things picked up enough she can go out here now the weather's cooler, and enjoy her sofa under the windows again.

I guess there was something you could do about it! Good job, those mixed item areas are always the hardest. Being able to reclaim the area and let your cat out there is going to feel so nice!

Thank you, Blackswan! Yes, it seems once you get going there's more that can be done than originally appears! Relative came and really turned it around out there! He threw out the cable reel sculpture thing! Moved the lumber behind the mattress so it doesn't show or look like it's going to tip over. Bagged up the cat box and the area rug. Took another area rug away for washing. Fixed the window so kitty won't push it out. Swept up some more. Then I went out and mopped the floor. So.... it's CAT TIME! I just have to put a fresh box out there (and I have litter out in the car, yay!) and a water bowl and she can go out and sun. She will be so pleased. Wow, I had no idea this would be a two-post project or I wouldn't have started a whole thread for it, but it really helped, so I'm grateful again for the awesomeness of Listzilla. Now I'm off to wash the sand and leaves and grit out of my hair, and make my cat happy.

Thanks snailspace, I needed your post today. I've been pretty depressed with low energy for a couple days and just came back today to read some stuff. Your enthusiasm is very motivating. I'm going to think up some stuff I can do today. Starting small it is not so overwhelming and then before you know it it is easier to do something else. Thanks for taking the time to post this today

Thank you, judejude, your post meant a lot to me! I hope you are feeling better! I happened to wake up with some energy today and those leaves looked like a do-able thing to handle, and the weather was nice and cool, and the rest happened pretty quick! I mean, yeah, there's still junk furniture and lumber and stuff out there BUT it is all tidy and swept up and mopped and the trash and glass are gone. The cat spent a great afternoon on the back of the sofa looking out the window, after walking all around the porch staring at things, as cats do, , so it was worth it.
