Hi, I'm MoJo and I am go delighted to find this resource. I found Squalor Survivors this weekend and it was like an oasis in a desert. That site directed me here. I am tired of slinking through narrow passages in my cluttered home. It has been this way for years. So I am taking baby steps in 15-minute increments. Today, Sunday: 1) I did a load of wash for some new bath towels and wash cloths I bought at Sam's Club. Then I folded them and found a clean spot to put them. 2) The clean towels prompted me to clean off my stacked up bathroom shelf. I wiped it down and now my clean towels and wash cloths are there. I took some time to celebrate and feel good. 3) I gathered up dirty dishes, unloaded my little used dishwasher and ran the dirty ones through twice. I will unload them later today. 4) I unstacked one of my kitchen counters and filled a whole trash bag with old stuff, trash and broken stuff. I took the trash bag to my yard and will tak it to the curb on Monday morning. I'm just sitting down and proud of myself. This is like a whole new day and I appreciate the inspiration I find here. I look forward to being an encouraging and positive meember. Thank YOU all!

Welcome Mojo, Sounds like you came to the right place. Here we all struggle to some degree or other to desqualor our homes and our lives. Your new towels folded in a clean place are a start and one you can look at to remind you what you can do. Also your kitchen is already looking better I'm sure. Big hug to you

Welcome, mojo!
You are doing well.
The SECRET: MAINTAIN!
That means that tomorrow, be sure that your clean towels still are tidy on the shelf in the bathroom. Wash up any dirty dishes that you get dirty during the day; add in a few "old" ones to get clean, too, if you have any. Clear off the kitchen counter AGAIN (if it is like most cleared off spaces, it will attract items as if it were a gigantic magnet!), AND make sure that the day's trash makes it to an appropriate waste receptacle (wastebasket, garbage can, trash bag, etc.).
Then, if you have any time and energy left, do ONE tiny thing more. You might water your houseplants, pick up things off the floor, dust off one item--you choose.
Repeat the next day. You will find that it doesn't take very long to tidy up and re-clean a recently cleaned area. The trick is NOT to let it get squalorous again.
You CAN do this!
I'm glad to have you "on board."
Arid

Welcome, mojo !
Okay, what's in the water where you live that you are so productive right out of the gate, and where do I get some !?!
Arid is right. If you maintain, and add just a bit more clean area each day, you will be squalor free before you know it.
It's great to have you here, you are an inspiration.

Welcome, Mojo! I had piles of clutter taking up a lot of real estate in my house when I started. It is amazing to see those open spaces now, and find new uses for them. (Twister, anyone?!?) Just keep babystepping forward, and reread Arid's great advice. And if you run into trouble or snags, just let someone here know, and you will get great support and tips for finding your way through.

What a great start! This is my first post. Starting is the hardest part for me. The good feeling I get from creating a little order will sometimes carry me through to creating more. The problem is, the next day I have to generate that start up energy again. Struggle struggle. I am struggling today. With bills. That's part of squalor isn't it? Not keeping up w/ the mail. Losing things. Fear of opening the mail b/c you know it's been so long since you dealt w/ anything that it's sure to be bad news. Incurring loads of late payments. Losing your good credit. Not b/c you didn't have the money to pay, but b/c you procrastinated. Sigh. And the unbearable shame and isolation. Thanks for relieving that part. Wishing grace and ease to everyone. Grasshopper(I have never been a part of a chat room before. Sorry if I am making mistakes)

You really touched on all the ways that this community has helped me. The struggling, not being able to keep up, the fear, shame and isolation. Sigh. Talking it out here really does help a lot. It is very healing. So glad that you are here!
