Hi All I love coming and checking out Listzilla and seeing how busy everyone has been. I have been at work this morning - 6am start but we weren't busy so I finished at lunchtime. I had all these ideas of how much I could get done if I came home but now that I am here I just want to lie around and watch the soap operas. I really want to get my garden under control. I think it appropriate to post about it here. My garden is squalorous and I guess I am embarrassed by it as it is so public. I do not know what it is like in other places but here people judge on how people keep there garden and lawns. I know I don't have to buy into it all but I do. And I actually enjoy gardening and I feel that I can't claim gardening as a hobby unless I actually do a bit occassionally. One problem I have had in the past is that I would far rather be working in the garden than doing housework and the house gets out of hand again. So I hope by posting here I can keep some balance. My plan for the garden is to only cultivate what I can maintain. Maintenance is the secret to gardening as well as housework. So here is my list: hang washing that is washing now wash sheets x 2 loads water plants by front door do something about getting veggie garden started walk dog text L Things I have been putting off: ring D ring Wi Sorry for the long post - I find it really useful to write things here, it helps me get things sorted in my own head. ETA:It's almost 5.30pm and I have had the most wonderful afternoon in the garden. The place in our yard that has been a veggie garden has been overgrown with grass and I thought that it would be really difficult to get it back to garden again but it hasn't been! The grass is just peeling off and the soil underneath is easy to dig into. I couldn't be happier! Tomorrow I will buy some compost and start planting. Things to Do This Evening: cook dinner clean up after dinner - hardly made any mess at all make bed fold washing ph sister and see if she wants to go for walk - itls raining and the dog is sound asleep on the end of the bed so it can wait. Have great days everyone!!!!

Razy, thanks for starting the tread. Do tell us about your garden as it comes along. This part of the world is getting colder and no gardening outdoors will be possible for a few months. But I do want to hear about yours.
Djollydjolan, how great that you have lemongrass. That is something that I have not yet found available here anywhere. I miss having it, so much. I love the flavor it lends to foods. Maybe one day, I will find a source for it that I have missed sinced moving here.
Lessismore, I am so glad you got your thesis done and submitted! Congratulations. And now you're going to a conference. Have a good time.
Celeste, I am glad to read that you will have the necessary eye surgeries next month. I suspect your time online may be somewhat limited for a bit after each surgery, so I will keep wellness thoughts for you in mind.
AnnieOkie, it sounds like the boys are really pulling their own weight at home. And it's nice to be a proud mom.
Udderchaos, all that shiney glass and mirrors! And the washer, too. I was amazed to find mold inside the rubber gasket of my washer (the gasket around the door - it's a front loader). Since then, I've been leaving it open when not in use, and using vinegar in the wash as a rinse agent. That mold really bothered me.

I'm not feeling very well (scratchy throat, light-headed) but I'm going to carry on anyway. Take meds Go through bills with Dad (Try this again!) Nope. He stayed too late with Mom. He's too sleepy. Go with Dad for his memory test (Other end of the building from Mom) Visit Mother Maintenance I'm saving comments until the end of the day, but I'll be watching and cheering for you all day long.

hey razy- the gardening sounds nice.. i can see how it would take ya away from working on the house.. i'd probably be out rooting in a garden if i had one even though it's fall.. kind of captain obvious solution but i've found gardening with perenials to be way way less maintenance than using annuals.. and less expensive in the long run because you don't have to constantly dig up and replace... that and adding in things that will retain visual interest through winter.. sorry i know ya weren't asking for gardening commentary but i think of gardening and my gears just start spinnnnning. swoon

eagle's Wednesday cleaned off the exterior of three potted plants moved one potted plant to its new home in master bathroom mixed ingredients for seitan prepared broth in which to cook the seitan laundry: one dryer load folded/hung/put away shower & hair cooked 25% of seitan mixture (left the rest to rest & cook later) turned off crockpot so broth & seitan can cool taste the seitan - perhaps cook something with it (didn't eat dinner yet) wrote shopping list & went shopping put away the things purchased tweaked the broth for second batch of seitan (into the crockpot it went)

Felt better as the day went along. You guys send great "get well" vibes! Thanks! Razy - Indulging in low maintenance gardening sounds perfect for the soul... and sanity. I think you've got a great plan. Enjoy the weather! lessismore - You've become a cleaning tornado! Does it feel good to switch from an intensely mental task to a physical one? I've discovered that I like to trade off during the day. Doing one gives me recovery time from doing the other. AnnieOkie - The hot cocoa sounds lovely. I may have to go fix a cup just before bed. Hmm! Don't worry about paying forward. You are doing it already, just by posting your successes here. Suggestion: Throwing up due to your new pro organizer/cleaner is probably NOT a good idea! Eagle - The bathroom sounds like a secluded garden oasis now with the plants growing around. The cataract surgery curtailed me less online last time than I thought it might, so we'll see! djdj - I can never tell if a scratchy throat is a problem that will go away as the day progresses, or something that is about to develop into a full scale cold. Plague averted, thankfully. I'm glad. I have a dental appointment tomorrow that I really wanted to get behind me. Calling it off due to illness wasn't something I wanted to do. Dumb question time: What kind of critter is Dorito? Hope the little one perks up on his crickets. ________________________________________ The memory doc evaluated Dad today. I found it interesting that Dad had rather average scores on the tests, but once they knew he had an advance degree, they saw the results in a different light. As I expected, Dad tried to minimalize his problems, but the doc agreed with me that driving on the wrong side of the road, even WITHOUT oncoming traffic in view, was dangerous and showed a lack of judgment. He also saw how Dad could forget entire conversations and events. He agreed with Dad's GP and Dad is now on Aricept for his cognitive problems. Hurray. We'll see what happens. One of Mother's closest friends visited her today. She moved a couple states away about a year and a half ago and Mom's missed her. Her son-in-law drove her back for a visit. It was lovely to see her again. My drawing went up today. Mom's delighted.
