I worked on a kitchen cabinent of food tonight. Tossed old stuff and things we will not eat four grocery bags in the trash now! YAY Most of it I threw away but I did keep the cans of soup to give to a friend who I know will pick them up in a timely matter. Was doing good on most things guilt-wise and then it struck over an expired plastic bottle of squeezable low sugar jelly! I cleaned the nest around my bed today too. Not perfect but 85% of the stuff is off the floor! Edit: Reading this again what a difference from before when I would have felt like I needed to clean every cabinent and sort and decide on every food item. Going into it tonight I didn't know if I would finish the one but figured I would get some stuff out! Major change in thinking (and much more functional) than before! I would also have had put up an add about the free food I have and been totally frustrated with people not picking it up and the stuff still sitting in the middle of our small kitchen. Thank you Amnesty what I finished tonight is finished!

Yes, my book life is very complicated. Indeed! Do you intend to get rid of more, or are you so far satisfied with "one in one out"? I have finished my morning routine (breakfast, bed, bathroom), decided to get rid of another book, watered the houseplants, and a vegetable stew (leek, bell peppers, zucchini, tomatoes) is simmering on the stove . Next: finish lunch prep and eat.

Good morning flotsam, looks like today is another early day for me since I'm on here already at 5:30! Your vegetable stew description is making my mouth water! Do you put in any herbs or spices? For now, I'm happy with my 1 in and 1 out because it's quite miraculous to me that I've been able to do that. I thought that I would be lucky if I could do it for the initial trial period, I thought I would find the FEW books I was willing to give up and then it would be impossible. But so far I'm still able to do it (I have to update that thread!) and I realize that I have to continue or else the books boxes will start increasing again. In the corner of my bedroom there are 6-8 empty boxes that I haven't been able to get rid of, because for so many years, I saved every copy paper or bankers type box I could find, for all the new books coming in. Finding that kind of sturdy book box was like finding gold, so it's been hard for me to throw out the extras, I can't quite believe that they're now EMPTY and will stay empty because the number of books will remain stable instead of constantly increasing. I'm hoping to get a ride to Target later in the day, I did major shopping earlier in the week but there are a few products I buy that I can only get at Target, and I don't get there very often anymore. Only one walk again later today--this is my last very light day, as starting tomorrow I will be busier for the next week. Scoop litter pans Feed birds Feed cats Start washcloths soaking PEEP in kitchen Diane

Herbs and spices: difficult question, I hope the online dictionary came up with the right translations. I use vegetable broth (powdered), sweet paprika powder, black pepper and curcuma. Shortly before end I add heavy sour cream (24% fat; I need the calories). I divide it into 4 portions (one to eat, 3 to reheat with veggies only) and usually add boiled ham when I reheat it. I'm quite astonished too that I let go of so many books. I wasn't my goal, I only wanted to make a clear decision keep/out, and now more and more are going. I'm not pushing it, it just happens that way. The good thing is that I'm not under pressure. I finished lunch prep, put 3 servings in containers to cool down so that I can put them into the fridge later, ate one portion and did the daily basic digital decluttering. Next: dishes.

I'm not pushing it, it just happens that way.
I think this means you're successfully learning the habit to let things go--we really can change the way we think so that we can reach the decision "I don't really need this" whereas before it was always "if in doubt, keep it--you never know...." To be able to evaluate more realistically what we will use and what we don't need. I'm not there yet with the books (it's a serious intellectual exercise with each book to decide to keep or let go) but with other categories of things, I can now decide within seconds that I don't need to keep it.
Your stew sounds SO good!

Turkeyhill, I just saw your post from last night--funny about the bottle of jelly being the only thing you got a twinge about--maybe because low-sugar items are expensive!? You also are learning the process of letting things go--that's fantastic that you were able to take amnesty on the food.

flotsam..YES - I finally booked my flight yesterday afternoon. I could not leave to go home until it was booked. Boy - I have a hard time making up my mind. Do I leave a day early and have a more relaxed flight or do I leave at 6am on the day of the event. (i voted a day early - I did not want to get up at 4am to be at the airport at 5am to be on a 6am flight) the same with the return trip. THe event ends at 5pm. there is one late flight and it would be a challenge to get to the airport in time then I would not land till after midnight (`12:30am) who do I want to keep up all night to come and get me? Thank goodness we live near the airport. while I wanted a day at home on friday to get some work done - I decided to come home on friday and again - have a more relaxed trip. I made two stops on the way home to make some returns. Wanted them OUT of the car. I spent the remainder of last night attacking my bedroom. I have more items to donate - about two bags worth at least. I still cannot find my black cropped sweater that I needed for today. Clothes got folded and out away or hung up. Two baskets ready to wash. I will wash them friday so I can pack first thing saturday morning. It was so hot this week and I got so sweaty.....and stinky..... I came to work early again today so that i could get some personal work done. I am coordinating the volunteers for a huge community event/day of service and I needed to import the service sites into the sign up program. That was a huge TO-DO that is off my list. Today is wrap up outstanding items and prepare for being away next week. Also an interview this afternoon to transfer into another office. I better get going.

I have more items to donate - about two bags worth at least. EXCELLENT! You sure seem to have a lot of returns though, are these all clothing items you buy and change your mind about? Wouldn't it be easier to just not buy them in the first place? But, better to return than to keep. Good luck on the interview today! Diane

Good morning everyone, looks like you all have been busy today.
Yesterday I was at Scribbliz's house, helping her prepare for an impending move.
Today I need to do a quick PUPA (pick up put away) around the house, then I need to catch up on business stuff I didn't do while I was away yesterday. I'm also going to be away all afternoon for summer reading club with my 7 year old

ohblondie - I think you made the right choices about your travel, the less stress the better.
After I got the critters fed I decided to throw on some clothes and make a quick trip in to town for groceries before the day got too hot for Boca to be in the car. Of course, quick trip is relative since I figured I might as well load garbage and recycling while I was at it. So first stop a mile down the road was to dump the very smelly garbage. Then just a quarter mile further to stop and drop off newspaper recycling. Onward toward town and a 3rd stop to get rid of the cardboard recycling - the small stuff that goes in a tall kitchen garbage can until it's full. Finally, the grocery store, parked in the shade of the trees at the edge of the lot. Since the dog now travels with me to such places I simply keep a cooler in the car so that most of the food can go in it and the rest goes in a big, heavy duty bag that zips closed so he can't indulge in any snacks on the drive home. (I once had a dog eat an entire package of frozen sausage links while I ran in to the video store to grab one movie.)
The groceries are put away and I'm sipping another cup of coffee before I get started on the rest of my day. We might get a t-storm later but then we'll have 6 days of pure sunshine - hotter but less humid. This would be an excellent chance to wash as many blinds as possible. I could do them outside in the small stock tank that is about the size of a bathtub and let them dry outside, no mess in my bathroom. I wonder if I could use my small pressure washer on them or if would be too powerful. Hum. Only one way to find out.
