creativechaos - yay, I had a helpful idea! I just know I love to come back to this forum and write down what I did. I forget some of it, and if I were away from home, I would forget more. Having a notebook with you makes it more immediate.

creativechaos - yesterday I was in the old kitchen and I got out a protein shake. I was talking to DH. I opened the bottle and loosened the top, and then did something else, and then picked it up and shook it! Chocolate shake all over the kitchen. Well not ALL over. It missed the rug, which was nice. But dishwasher, cabinets, floor. So I was thinking about how wiping up spills is an opportunity to clean places ... someone spilled something on the kitchen cabinets and *didn't* wipe it right away, and it was stuck on. So I got that. And I took the opportunity to wipe the floor edges under the cabinets and get a few cobwebs, and quickly wiped around most of the perimeter. This is the method for me ... go after that dirt, spill, whatever, and a little bit more, just as far as that momentum takes me. I'm also remembering the BDG Method as I move stuff between the laundry room and basement. It makes so much sense. When I get up, or leave a room, I look around for a thing that doesn't belong there and take it to where it does, and grab something from there ...

creativechaos great work on dishes and paper challenges! Im glad you gave yourself credit for sweeping cat hair. I find it helps to break it down into areas. Neither of us are in a place where we can sweep up all the cat hair. Anything i do, even if its just a few square feet counts.
larataylor great job on cleaning up the shake and a bit more. That is definetely a great way to attack the messes. Yes BDG method does make so much sense. If youre walking somewhere any way why not bring sonething.

I second what Unswamping said. Clean the floor you can see. Does not make sense to wait for the whole floor!

thanks, larataylor and Unswamping - i love the BDG method when i am mindful and focused enough to remember to use it. and i like the thinking that says, "while i'm here cleaning up this spill, let me clean just a little bit more." yes. i did pretty good last night despite being tired all the time. i hope to do well today too. so far i have worked in the garden, watered, and i got a washing machine so am doing a load of laundry. this is a master list i've been thinking about. it seems unattainable but i'll write it anyway ongoing dailies to attain:cat care dishes wipe stove top check kitchen floor for creeping clutter and spot-clean any fresh drips or spills make bed clothing and shoes PEEPing bodily care (teeth etc) to strive for:sweep kitchen floor at least once a week if possible sweep bathroom floor weekly get better about writing appointments on my calendar sweep cat hair and dirt in traffic areas and other areas weekly put away what i take out to use or not use (hahahahaha - but i can wish!) clean toilet weekly clean bathroom sink weekly specific:sort papers - at least an hr a week total sort belongings - hoping to average 7 hrs a week. not enough but a beginning clear flat surfaces of excess clutter. i'm ok with clutter, just not PILES and unusable. keep gently challenging my flawed hoardy thinking while trying to be kind to self take off the blinders and face the discomfort, little by little. progress, not perfection time for friends, family, cultural events, creativity, and nurture of body and soul ETA - there was a flood in the laundry room that ended up taking lots of time and energy. luckily for me i had used the other washer and so was able to do a complete load of laundry and put it away. now we have one washer for 40 tenants and various and sundry "friends" of tenants that somehow have keys.

creativechaos Sorry to hear about the washer situation. That sucks! glad you got to use a washer, though, and get some done. CD

i really don't know where to start. maybe today, instead of a list of to-dos, i should list have-dones so i don't feel like a total slacker. the problem is a lot of them have nothing to do with dehoarding or cleaning.
went to garden. watered, weeded, pulled thistles; planted basil starts, watered-in basil. (2 hrs)
went to storage, pulled a box of clothes and will consign most, probably Thurs because i like the lady who works there on Thursdays. rearranged a unit that i couldn't get into at all; moved some things to the other units. sorted some books, got too anxious. put a few "maybe i can let go" boxes together of small books - mostly sci-fi novels i never read. (2 hrs)
got anxious at storage and more depressed. went to food bank, ate and went through line (1.5 hrs) still need to put that food away; there is not much. i got some soil and fertilizer there; a bunch of garden stuff had come in so i took that instead of food.
got home, read emails, frittered another couple hrs. now here i am.

I like TaDas, too. I try to list them in my journal each evening. Some of mine have been pretty little, but they count, especially while I have been sick and truly not able to do much.
I’ve also been trying to watch for certain things through the days: things that I see that are beautiful, or at least pretty, during the course of the day, and things to be thankful for. That helps me keep putting one foot in front of the other.
Hugs!

peaceandfreedom; i love what you wrote. i am sorry you have been so ill and hope you are feeling much better. what wisdom you wrote - i think seeing the beauty and being grateful make everything go better, so thank you! maybe i need to add the practice of writing down gratitudes again. i will try to catch up on some reading here on the boards this week. i am reviving this thread. i need to get back into the swing of things and keep trying to develop new habits that stick. my eating is going better; i lost 10 lbs or so in the last couple of months. my housekeeping habits, however, are atrocious. i have been trying to defend gains i made for inspection with some small but inconsistent successes. so i am posting this master list again even though lists make me crazy and i don't follow them well or consistently. it's more a reminder to self about what i aim for and what i'd like to accomplish - even if it seems unattainable now. i am doing better on some - not yet all - of the "ongoing dailies" - not great, but better. i'll count that as progress. ongoing dailies to attain:cat care dishes wipe stove top check kitchen floor for creeping clutter and spot-clean any fresh drips or spills make bed clothing and shoes PEEPing bodily care (teeth etc) to strive for:sweep kitchen floor at least once a week if possible sweep bathroom floor weekly get better about writing appointments on my calendar sweep cat hair and dirt in traffic areas and other areas weekly groom the cat - i have started that and we have our special time. put away what i take out to use or not use (hahahahaha - but i can wish!) clean toilet weekly clean bathroom sink weekly specific:sort papers - at least an hr a week total sort belongings - hoping to average 7 hrs a week. not enough but a beginning. clear flat surfaces of excess clutter. i'm ok with clutter, just not PILES and unusable. keep gently challenging my flawed hoardy thinking while trying to be kind to self. take off the blinders and face the discomfort, little by little. progress, not perfection! time for friends, family, cultural events, creativity, and nurture of body and soul. i haven't even included working in the storage units but that needs to be part of this plan!
