Unswamping, Microwaves are probably the easiest appliance in the kitchen to clean, put in a glass bowl with water and vinegar, turn it on for 10 minutes (make sure the bowl is fairly large) when the timer goes off, remove the bowl and the turntable, wipe down the inside of the microwave -- everything will be loose and you can simply wipe it. Wash the turntable -- everything will be loose on that as well. Replace turntable and wipe down the outside with either the hot vinegar water or a mild spray cleaner. Microwaves are almost self cleaning.

Thanks gang, for playing along with me yesterday! I was losing steam, and probably would've left it halfway done, if I didn't have you there with me in spirit. I was a little too aggressive on the grease, and ended up scratching the plastic knob area facing. That's what I get for leaving a simple weekly job for *years* ugh. I posted an 'after' pic in the photo section. There's a 'midway' shot, too - no 'before' because it was too depressing to want to drag my camera out for it, . Yuck!

great work! I use the vacuum to clean out the crumbs in my oven. I also used the baking soda and water paste to do the front door and window. That worked well. My oven is gross and I didn't do much to it.

Di tnmimi taught me that microwave trick. I love it. Im soaking the turntable now. I really should just wipe it off and get the microwave cleaned. Like you said it practically cleans itself.

The oven? Yeah, it really needs to be done. im planning on using a baking soda/water paste to clean my oven. Ill let you know how it works. I used this method when moving out of my duplex last spring. On some spots, it worked miraculously well, on others just okay, but overall, it was pretty good.

Please read this!! Oh, I should warn y'all unless you already know about it------if you put a cup of water in the microwave and turn it on for too long sometimes the water will just sit there and then suddenly explode. I thought it was a fact that if you looked it up was just something going round on the internet, but I've had it happen a couple of times. I was doing this water/steam thing once and I heard a big POW and came into the K and there was water dripping out of my microwave.
This is a link to the facts so don't open the door till you've looked at it GOOD!

Unswamping and Di I'm trying to see if I can tag you on this----never have before so if you read this let me know if it worked!

tnmimi your tag worked great. Ive know that about microwaves. Actually anything with a high water content (cup of soup, coffee) will do that. I am very careful when i put liquid in the microwave. When i clean it, i use a small pyrex dish and set it for 30 seconds. Its enough to steam it up a bit without boilng the water. I also let the dish sit for a bit to cool down.

I have also known that about microwaves. I only boil water in tempered glass like Pyrex. I never use cups or serving or eating bowls, etc... Pyrex is supposedly tempered to withstand temperature changes. Also this is more likely to happen if you don't have a turntable in your microwave, the motion of the turntable moves the water just enough so that it doesn't heat while stationary. The movement plus the tempered glass will generally prevent the "explosion" I should have made that clear in my post. I apologize. In addition, I don't use pyrex on top of the stove in direct contact with the heat source. I had one break doing that.

I'm pretty sure when this happened to me last I had a pyrex or anchor hocking glass 1 or 2 cup measuring cup, so I'm just saying it happens so even I need to be careful doing this. But it sure does work well cleaning the microwave!!!
