For the last couple of years, I've done crisis cleaning before the day, ended up having no time for prep and not shopped soon enough. Consequently, Thanksgiving Day has been hell and I end up being resentful that no one helps me and pretty much hate them all. Not very family oriented.
Adding to my very own pressure cooker this year is the wave of sickness that has swept through our home and the fact that I have an appointment for a home health worker on Friday. She is charged with getting us help for my father who is partially handicapped from a stroke. Depending on what she thinks we could get a few free grab bars or an entire bathroom remodel. It is a very big deal which, of course, sends me into panic and shutdown. I am going to attempt for about the millionth time to have a peaceful home, a nice dinner and a lovely experience for all, including myself.
So today is the Saturday before the Thursday. My head is really stuffed (not that I need an excuse) and I really only want to plop in front of the TV. I am going to try a tactic that has worked for me in the past called JUST KEEP MOVING.
The big picture:
Front Yard Driveway Kitchen Living room Dining room 2 bedrooms 2 bathrooms backyard where dog has destroyed yet another dog bed-stuffing everywhere shop for the meal do meal prep Wednesday
I want to do better sooo badly. Not Martha perfect just nice and peaceful. May God in heaven help me. May my Squalor goddesses here on earth help me.
My vision: Thursday we wake up to a delicious breakfast, pop the turkey in the oven, watch the parades on TV under blankets. Around noon I start the dinner having prepped everything the day before. While things are cooking (my husband tend things) I drive to my brother's house to pick him up. When I arrive he is sober and not hungover. We get back to the house and sit down to a lovely dinner around 3. Later we have pies and coffee. I do the dishes while the boys watch football. I drive my brother home. I come home to a clean house and not being stressed at all by the upcoming appointment on Friday, I have some leftover stuffing and yams(I'm a vegetarian), watch those Thanksgiving night specials on TV and get to bed early with a smile on my face.
Tada's:
Saturday November 22 Sinks full of dishes: 7 Cleaned area next to husbands recliner we call the "squirrel's nest" among the newspapers and dishes I found a beautiful piece of mosaic my son did at school that I hadn't seen. Dad looked at it and "squirreled" it away.
Need to go to grocery-fridge is nearly empty and I haven't felt like going. Trying to get going.

Okay, you've got a good start by making a list. And, it's not the last minute. Just go through and do the most important things in each room. No need to do Spring housecleaning at this time! Don't try to be perfect. Good luck on your plan! Keep us posted on your progress.
