I was reading the posts and I can't find it now but someone had said remarked about nobody seeing the unmade bed so why bother. She had a reply that she would see it. This hit me right at home. So MANY times I have said just leave it there (the mess). Or I would not fix, or clean something because nobody sees it anyway. This notion was invading my home in other ways too. Like not decorating for the Holidays...nobody sees it. Just us. WHAT? It hit me. This is OUR home. WE SEE IT. MY BOYS SEE IT. I started thinking about something someone had said about kids seeing so much violence on tv that it desensitises them to it. BANG. My kids see so much clutter and disrepair that they are being desensitized to it. We should clean it, fix it , decorate it because WE SEE IT, and WE are not nobody.

I second that! We are important. We are somebody. Thanks for the reminder.

I saw that quote too. I don't remember who did the post, but it was Angelina Hedgehog who brought up the point that YOU ARE SOMEBODY. It was very powerful, I had never thought of it that way before either.

It is something that is so easy to overlook, ignoring our own need for a place of calm, peace and dignity. We do violence to our self-image when we surround ourselves with junk and clutter. We cripple our pride and sense of simple animal grooming.

Right on! I have said the same thing to myself for years & that is exactly how I got in quite as big a mess as I have - figured as long as no-one saw it it didn't matter. But it should! To me!

I am reminded of Jesse Jackson going all over and speaking that phrase to all. "I am....Somebody!" "I am....somebody!" It is so true. We all are somebody. Somebody who deserves a clean house. A sanctuary. A home that we can enjoy, even if nobody else ever sees it. 3G

I, too, haven't forgotten that thread. This is a very small place so not much room for visitors. But I always think I'd like to have it straightened up for my cat's comfort. Not to mention that she's very Bad and always into things. Me, well, I don't figure into it at all.
