Hi everyone, welcome to the Short List thread.
Work however you wish, use whatever form you wish, make lists, don't make lists, socialize or encourage others if you wish, or keep your head down and concentrate on your own work... BUT...
There is one rule. Only short lists allowed - no more than 5 (or 6) items total listed in a post.
I find some lists helpful, but when I see really long lists, they freak me out. They make me feel overwhelmed. They make me think of all the things that I really still have to do. They make me think I'm not doing enough. They obviously are helpful to others, but not to everyone. This thread is intended as a refuge for others like me who, when seeing long lists, react negatively. So let's get some things done. Everyone is welcome.

Betsy, I this thread. I know of someone who was very distressed about another person(s) who would post huge long lists on W-I-T. It really intimated her. I know when I was new here long lists intimidated me too I got to the point now where I just ignore long lists. I'm not in competition with anyone. This other user messaged me about it several times back in the Spring, and think this type of thread would have been a good option for her. I just didn't know how to handle it, (I'm not the W-I-T police) and I didn't think of starting a new thread, which I see you have done very successfully!

Thanks, Ally. Unfortunately those long lists are what stopped me for working in WIT (Working in Threes), though sometimes I do visit. That is such a great format. But, heck, I'll work any thread that gets me going. Right now I'm working on the last large pile on the kitchen floor. Done: -lined large trash can for kitchen -sorted through half the clutter -filled dishpans with 'keepers' and suds Todo: -wash soaking dishes -clean counter in front of microwave

I also love a short list. I have a lot of work to do, but it is really only one job.
Move things from the living room to the rooms they belong before the furniture is delivered.

I apologize if my long lists in WIT caused anyone anguish. I started a brain dump list thread so I won't offend anyone with my long lists. My listings are a coping mechanism that actually calm my anxiety and helps me organize the things I need to remember. I am wired different than most folks. ☹️Again I am sorry if my long lists were bad for any of you. Happy decluttering, everyone and I hope you all have a real good day.

That sums it up. My 'one job' is to turn the house into a functional living space, via doing lots of smaller tasks along the way.
Done: -washed one dishpan of dishes -put in more to soak -decluttered more of the floor -vacuumed in the kitchen where I could
To do: -more of the same

We all work in ways that fit each of us. Listzilla is a large place with an infinite number of options for existing or new threads so everyone can find what they need in order to be productive and happy.
We tend to be a quirky group, but we all have a similar goal.... how we get there is going to be different.
Back to work.

Besides, Script says in her sticky post that there are no rules in Listzilla(see this link) takeonestepatatime.proboards.com/thread/77/rules-listzilla

It's okay, you have to find what works for you and do it. Long lists don't phase me anymore, but when I was new here I did find them intimidating. Could I measure up? The person who messaged me was also dismayed when some people posted "cleaned [name room]" as a single task in WIT. In our examples in the opening paragraph we can count taking care of a single object as a task. I don't think one thread will meet everyone's needs but we need to find what works for us and do it. At one time we had a thread similar to your "brain dump" thread. I think it was called something like "whatchamacallit". I don't remember how it was spelled. I found an old sample of it: takeonestepatatime.proboards.com/thread/28021/whatchamacallit-thread-april-3rd-10th

The person who messaged me was also dismayed when some people posted "cleaned [name room]" as a single task in WIT. In our examples in the opening paragraph we can count taking care of a single object as a task. I remember once, several years ago, someone posted "washed, dried, folded, and put away 6 loads of laundry"-- as a single task in WITs. Intellectually, I recognized that the poster must be in maintenance, and so for them, it really was a single task, and maintenance is a *GOOD* thing which I praise. But emotionally, I just couldn't process reading that as a single task. I had to get over myself and stop worrying about it, and then just continue doing my own tasks in tiny pieces.

I've arrived at 'the bottom of the pile' in the part of the kitchen where I'm working. It seems there are always a few things at the bottom of every pile which are problems. Things I don't know what to do with. 'Those' clothes in the bottom of the laundry hamper. The things that just get left 'for later'. The things that form the foundation on which the next pile is built. Seed clutter.
But I don't want yet another pile there. Time to resolve what to do with these things. Clean and put away, or toss. Hard decisions ahead.

to do: 10 minutes on arranging rides to appointments. Another 10 minutes on arranging rides to appointments. Didn't do that. Did this instead: spent a full hour digging through some of my old medical records to find the date of a medical procedure. I needed this old date in regards to a current medical issue. Some success. Found what I think is the right date. Next step: Find out how to request detailed medical records from the specific date I'm researching.
