I've hesitated to post 1) because my internet name everywhere is FlyLadyFan and on this board that should mean something, . But it doesn't other than literally. I'm a big fan of her methods, but getting them done, um, not so much. 2) I'm in level 1 and don't want to complain about it/myself (too much). I know from lurking there are folks here with much more real struggles than mine. Mostly I draw inspiration from you wonderful people to get off my duff and do something like you all are actually doing! You encourage each other so much with baby steps and 3-at-a-times that it only makes sense to do it. Now. And sometimes I do. I grew up in level 2, but I've always maintained a level 1 in my life because I just CAN'T STAND not having anywhere to set down a drinking glass at least! But I have become a clutter bug with difficulty letting go of stuff I might use/need/craft with one day. So every closet and cabinet is overfull, there's not room for another stick of furniture, and the dust is up to 'thick protective coating' for all surfaces. I have a bit of a sarcastic humor and (very) often give unsolicited advice -- so I'm not sure how that will translate in writing but I hope not too bad. My intent is to ALWAYS be kind and maybe generate a chuckle when possible, even in down moments. I'm so glad to have found this little warm and real corner of the internet. hi kimberly - welcome! each person has their own level of what is unacceptable to them. for some, it's level 1. i think, as some people get more cleared out, their tolerance for clutter goes down - so it makes perfect sense to be distressed by less and less clutter, as things get better. others of us dream of GETTING to level 1 in our lifetime, and keeping it there! it takes all kinds, and this wonderful group accepts all kinds! you recognize the problem for you; that you want to nip the clutter-bug in the bud. the tendency to hoard and clutter gets worse as you age and your mental faculties and decision making start to go, due to hormonal shifts such as menopause and decreased physical capacities that aging brings; so it's good you are joining here and recognize where you want to go. giving unsolicited advice... hmmm.... no 'advice' there, except; always be kind and sensitive to each individual person and what they can handle, and don't expect people to follow advice, just because you suggest it. some need encouragement more than advice. you will feel things out as you go. (oops - i just gave unsolicited advice! - hey, my excuse is, i learned it from my mother!) i find it fascinating that we can know what's right for others, but not always able to follow it for ourselves; no matter. that's the beauty of this group! we are here to support each other and through that, i believe we are all helped! many of us love to laugh, especially at/with ourselves. a bit of lightheartedness is always a breath of fresh air. since you are a fan of flylady, i'll bet you have a lot of good cleaning and maintenance tips! it's a big and diverse world in here, and this is the nicest, most creative, wise, and savvy community. there are lots of great threads in listzilla where you will find like-minded people, getting things done!

Hello flyladyfan Welcome! I also love Flylady and followed her 31 baby steps at the beginning of this year. I found them very helpful. The most important and helpful thing that I have learned on this board is to clean quickly. For instance: I had to empty out my master bathroom of everything, same with my vanity area and deep clean my bathroom. That wasn't the quick part let me tell ya. But , then I was able to swish and swipe (Flylady) . Now I clean my bathroom quickly. Just a few minutes. When I make my bed, I just pull the sheets up and get out of it. Done! An empty dishwasher gets filled over the course of a day, run after dinner and put away the next morning. Clear surfaces are a cinch to wipe because you don't have to work around stuff. Mirrors are done with a microfiber and water. We have a large family so 1 load of laundry per day to completion. Having some space in closets and drawers helps with the putting away part. Trash day is big because thats the day I empty all the trashes large and small and empty leftovers out of the refrigerator. This is all I can think of right now. Most of the stuff are just tricks. A crock pot meal can save you on time (and energy) if you are catching up on cleaning or decluttering.

hello. You will find a huge mixture of styles of approach here. There are some here who like flylady. There are others (such as myself) who *loathe* the flylady program. Just can't stand it! . And some members who like some of her ideas and dislike other of her ideas. But none of that matters. As long as we can accept that each of us has a different approach, we do all accept one another. Welcome!

Welcome flyladyfan! Taking that first step and posting here can really help you get focused and stay on track. Somehow, it's like a contract with yourself when you write your thoughts and goals on your blog. For me, at least, it keeps me Trying. And, it reminds me that I am making progress - baby steps! There is such a broad range of people on this site who struggle with getting their house in order, ranging from "I'd like to throw a match and burn this place down" to "I'm at maintenance and I don't want to let my guard down for a moment." I think decluttering is similar to weight loss. Whether you need to lose 10 lbs. or 50 lbs., the struggle is REAL. And, this is a great place to get help with the struggle! For help with ongoing upkeep and maintenance, check out hollyhock's blogs. She keeps a running schedule - daily, weekly, monthly and has useful, concrete plans. She's a great reminder that IT CAN BE DONE. Plus, she's fun. I like the work-alongs, too, especially if I have a task that I'm putting off for some reason. When I commit "in front of someone," it helps me focus and actually follow through. This is a wonderful group of people with advice and insights and often just encouragement. So - be encouraged and Welcome!

FlyLadyFan a/k/a Kimberly Maryland, USA Welcome, flyladyfan. I think I'm at L-1 (clutter, but 'public' parts of the house are fine-ish), and I like some of Flylady's suggestions, but don' no one tell me to wear no lace-up shoes! Separate me from my mules and Crocs at your own peril.
