My friend's husband is coming over today to do some work in the house....mainly the kitchen. I've been cleaning this morning and not decluttering. It's far from perfect and needs more work, but finally to the point where I can let someone see it and (hopefully) not see squalor.
I hope this goes well!

It has been my experience that MOST guys are far less judgemental about mess, dust, clutter, squalor and even chaos than women. I realize that this is a sexist generalization, but that is what I have personally experienced. Hurrah for friends! And hubbies! AND HOPE! xxoo from script ps: i am currently dashing around like crazy picking up bits of fluff and dust, tidying up stuff, a bit of stash and dash: before my family's arrival. My DH keeps saying: ENUFF ALREADY!

At least you can let somebody in! That is a very big milestone. Keep up the good fight!

I still can't find my digital camera, so I'll need to order another one. An inexpensive one. Then I'll finally be able to post photos.

Wow. He was here a *long* time! He was late though - he didn't arrive until around noon and stayed 6 hours. He cleaned the gutters, put two new doorbell ringers on the front/back doors, fixed the brick cement on my back porch, put in a new kitchen faucet, blah, blah. He did see The Black Hole of Doom (a.k.a. the computer room) but didn't really say anything.
I did it! I survived.
I haven't done my 10-15 mins. of decluttering today....however, I did do cleaning this morning before he arrived and I cleaned up the area around the sink after he finished, so I figure my day's work is done. I had no idea that the edges under the sink had some black crud. Ew! But it's gone now. BTW, I'm really liking my new Seventh Generation cleaner - it does a great job with greasy, dirty muck.

WOW! Not only did you do a great job making it possible to have someone come in, but what a lot of repairs he did! When I have things fixed and made nicer, it motivates me to take better care of my place.

Good job! How nice to have someone who can come do the work for you.
I agree that the men are not as judging on cleanliness. I don't mind letting men in most of the time. Thank goodness my hubby was a plumber and is pretty handy at other repairs. He is able to fix most things without involving any outside assistance.

I think as long as you don't have rotten food or animal poo, or stink to high heaven, men don't generally notice.
