Today is my first day. My first goal is to clean at least an hour a day. I am disabled, so I need to take breaks or I wear down fast. I guess I will start with the listzilla. I’m a hoarder, who generally has a fairly clean living living room, kitchen and one bathroom is clean. Otherwise all rooms are piles and piles of mainly junk or old projects never completed. Any support is appreciated. I wish I could hire an org hanizer to help me and I wish I could see a psych to get help with the hoarding, but can’t do so becuz of finances🤧

welcome, lilfinn! i hoard too, and struggle with it, but keep on trying to make progress - so you have company. we are all kinds of people in here; some are in full maintenance, some in partial, some just starting out - but we all understand and have been through similar things. here you will find many creative minds and ideas, and practical tips and acceptance. WTG on having some of your rooms well maintained; you have a great start in that. we support each other no matter what, and i think you will love our group. there are workalong threads, you can start your own blog, do chat, start threads on certain topics for support - or none of all of the above. check out the BDG Method. BDG was wonderful, and she could only do a little bit at a time so she made every move count! i wish i could find that thread, but search is not working at the moment. one of her things was to never leave a room empty-handed and another was to do small challenges right where she sat. i'm so glad you found us! cc

Welcome aboard! You already have some safe spaces that you defend! Well done on this accomplishment! Best wishes for getting the rest of your environment one that you will love to surround yourself with! It can be done!

Welcome to the board lilfinn! Great work keeping up the living room, kitchen and bathroom!
Can you go through one box or one bag at a time in your hoarded rooms? The boxes or bags that contain only type of item are easiest to go through first and will help clear room quickly. You can then bring in "sorter" boxes in order to go through other boxes and put like with like (if you have an inkling that certain boxes or bags have mixed contents). Remember to keep at least one box close at hand for donations and keep a lined trash can right at your elbow too! You can do this!
Sending you energy and motivation!

Hello and Welcome lilfinnI think cleaning for 1 hour per day is very do-able. Honestly, all I do is pull my sheets up to make it, put on a load of laundry, swish and swipe my bathroom and put away load of dishes...all of that happens in the morning. During the day the dirty dishes get put directly into the dishwasher. I try to do 5 minute jobs when I am waiting for : the coffee pot, dinner cooking, or a commercial break, for instance. One thing that this has done for me is that I can actually do my routine and be done for the day even though the house isn't finished ...I can still relax. Good luck!

Hi lilfinn , welcome! You will get great ideas here! If you can't afford any organizer, do you have any good friends who have been thru cleaning up a home after someone died, or helping to downsize a home? I have a really good friend who helped me sort thru boxes and boxes of stuff after my mother died, and really helped with her encouragement so o could actually get the project done. It helps to have someone there, in person or virtually, who can say "you only can keep what fits in this storage box" or "you aren't even interested in latch hooking any more, it won't benefit you in any way to keep that unfinished kit". We can help, if you don't have anyone in person.

lilfinnWelcome! Great job keeping some areas of your home in order! I am a "thinker" (aka daydreamer). Your comment about keeping several areas clean made me think - Is there a reason that THOSE rooms are kept up? Like in case you have company? Are the cluttered rooms specific to any sorts of task or projects? Recently, another member suggested this: Maybe if you chose a "theme" for each room it may help. For me, I have a room for the cats (pans, supplies, litter), a birds' room, a room for piano and music-type stuff, and a sewing/art room. Of course, right now those designs are just in my head. Right now those same rooms are full of other stuff. But, it helps me to stay motivated by the little dreams I have of transforming certain areas. Maybe that will work for you, too. Also - I love the idea of cleaning for one hour. I also try to make a plan of baby steps and estimate how long each step will take. Making a plan for the day makes the projects less overwhelming and depressing for me. I focus only on the jobs at hand and then don't feel as though I am moving the ocean with a teaspoon. Good luck! Glad you are here.
