Hello, all. I've been mostly squalor-free since I first became pregnant with my older kid. Before that? Hoo boy. It got bad, bad, bad sometimes. It's gotten "kinda bad" a couple of times since he was born, and since my new little baby was born, I just took care of the bare essentials this year, which means there's a lot to take care of now that she's almost one. We've seen mice this year, which means it's really icky in my drawers and cabinets. Gah. So I'm deep cleaning now. I need to do so much, but I'm overwhelmed. I'm almost half-way through decluttering and scrubbing the cabinets, surfaces, and drawers in the kitchen. My living room is mostly nice except for this one corner no one can see unless the couches are pulled out. But this area doubles as our coffee table and our computer table, and when stuff falls off, it's easy to "clean" the room but neglect this area. So we have a fairly messy house with one real area of total squalor in a corner. Ugh. Clutter and mess has been my albatross around my neck for all of my adult life. And now that I'm 30 with 2 kids, I need to figure out how to clean with a baby and a preschooler around. I'm at a loss and frustrated.

- Welcome!
I see you've already posted in the Working in Threes threads. That's as good a place to start as any.
From reading your intro, I see you've already begun cleaning some things. That's terrific.
I see that you have young children. There are other parents here who will be able to give you ideas.
Welcome to the place where we each slowly become ... "less overwhelmed" than before.

Welcome, Wind !
Take heart, you have done it before and can do it again.
You are also starting while the kids are young. You can get the habits of keeping up into them while they still think cleaning is fun.
There is no one right place to start. As CL_SS said, Working in Threes is as good as any. Put the baby tummy down on a blanket on the floor with a toy or two, give preschooler something to do -- matching socks, folding washcloths and hand towels, sweeping, using a washcloth and spray bottle of water to clean the floor or doors or something -- and start wherever you feel most comfortable.
It's good to have you here.

It is so hard to clean with kids. They really make messes, don't they? But you have conquered squalor, and you can maintain what is nice, while spending 5 minutes each day on the pockets of squalor. It can get better, and you can make it happen.
Welcome to the boards.

WELCOME!! Wind! Crazycatlady is right...spend just a few minutes a day on your bad area and eventually it will get to the point where you just have to maintain it. With two little ones underfoot you will always have a little bit of clutter/disarray......remember to strive for "good enough" not perfection!
