...but an old hat at living in squalor.
I am glad to find this community. I've always lived in chaos, and I'm trying to find a way out, which is why I chose the username OutOfChaos.
I am 39, married, have two beautiful daughters, and I look forward to getting to know those of you who share my problem of too much stuff in not enough space.
I've just been reading some of the other intros, and mine feels so bare. I have rooms in my house that are a 1 or 2, and other rooms that are 3 (if I understand the levels correctly). I have always had trouble with this - I grew up sharing a bedroom with 3 sisters, and we never had dressers (wasn't room for them) so I never got in the habit of putting clothes away. Now, as my husband says, the clothes own the house and are kind enough to let us live there.
I have been slowly working on my bedroom. I've already thrown out 5 bags of stuff and you can barely see a difference...I can see it, though. I can see floor in places where the floor has been hidden for 8 years. I got tired of working in my bedroom and I cleaned out a closet yesterday morning. That closet was just stuffed full of crap, ever since we moved in 9 years ago! I threw away almost everything. I'm trying to not pressure myself, but just make slow progress towards getting the room cleaned out.

- New to the community... ...but an old hat at living in squalor.
I've just been reading some of the other intros, and mine feels so bare. No worries. We don't "compete" here. Everyone is just as awesome as everyone else. Well, what I mean is, you don't have to be fancy in what you write. Not all of us had some deep trauma or crazy event. Some people, including myself, just never got into the habit of cleaning.
Wow! That's HUGE progress. You've found a section of FLOOR in the bedroom. We always celebrate being able to see FLOOR. And you threw out almost everything in the closet! WOW! I'm trying to not pressure myself, but just make slow progress towards getting the room cleaned out. Yup, that's the way to do it. You'll get it done at a reasonable pace, and, during the process, you'll learn about the skills of sorting and cleaning. -

.. Now, as my husband says, the clothes own the house and are kind enough to let us live there. Dear Out: there is something you left out of your introduction. You are obviously married to a guy with a sense of humour! welcome from Script ps: I live in a house that is just an annexe to The Garage, where the Classic Cars call all the shots.

Welcome! Glad to have you here.
You found your floor! Way to go. That is greatness.
My hubby calls it the "chest of floor" in my house. We also have "chest of chair" and "chest of laundry basket". Yes he has a twisted sense of humor.

Thank you everyone for the welcome!
I'm not a hoarder, really, I have no problem getting rid of things, I just have trouble working up the energy to deal with the getting rid of stuff problem. And I get overwhelmed looking at it, and don't know where to start, so I don't. Entropy is my demon.
My husband is a bit of a hoarder, though - he gets very emotionally attached to objects or things that could possibly be useful. And he's terrible about slips of paper - he is a writer and he is always taking down notes on envelopes or the back of receipts, and then I can't throw them out because he might need them.
I am hopefully getting a new computer for Christmas, if so, I'll be sharing pictures soon. I am relieved to not be alone on this!

Welcome, OutOfChaos. I get overwhelmed, too. Chat helps with that, as does Listzilla. I'm glad that you found us!

WELCOME!! Outofchaos! It sounds like you've already made progress and I sure do envy you your ability to just toss things without stress! I'm kind of like your husband so I do admire people who have no issues with tossing things
