I know the church ladies had promised to help me with my bedroom, but as busy as the holidays are, it looks more and more like I'm on my own until after New Year's.
I'm not blaming anyone, I know how busy December can be. But I'm supposed to be getting my bedroom organized ASAP for the inspector and after being in the hospital, I physically can't do it alone. And I don't want to keep bugging the church ladies to help me.
I'm totally at a loss as to what to do. I'm still slowly working on the kitchen and living room. I haven't even got to the bathroom yet. Should I call the church ladies again or wait until after the holidays? Should I call the inspector at all?

Re: Inspectors I'd lay low and stay off their radar--no reason to call and remind them they haven't "quite" finished with you.
Besides, I find the closer it gets to Christmas/New Year's, the less work happens anywhere, including, I'd wager, at the housing inspectors' office.
Re: Church Ladies I think I'd try to set something up with them for right after the holidays. You don't want them to forget you have asked for the help, but you also don't want to make them feel either guilty or annoyed, or both, that they can't get to it before the holidays.
I'd sit tight, keep bundled up, cuddle with Angel and ride out the rest of the month as best you can. Best of luck, Rennie!

Dear Rennie Ellen,
I agree with Moggyfan about not calling the inspector.
As for the church people, I am rather stumped. Could you call and ask about them recruiting other help if they cannot do it themselves? I'm thinking a youth group project during the Christmas break, or asking others in the church who might not know about your situation.
You are in my daily prayers, and I hope they figure out a way to help you soon.

P.S. Messymimi had a good idea there. I teach high school and we require each student to do 25 hours of community service each year (and if they don't make their 100 by graduation time, we hold their darn diploma till they do).
A lot of high schools have a similar requirement now. You might find a couple of strong, eager kids who'd be glad to help! If your church does have a youth ministry, you may well find some kids who'd love to get some hours in over the Christmas break.

Rennie, I'm just darn glad that you posted!!! I've been watching the Christmas Poll post to see what you'd decided to do. When you didn't post there, I was afraid you had to be hospitalized again.
As suggested by others, snuggle up with Angel and relax for the rest of the month. After the holidays, if you don't hear from the people at church, contact your local high school, as has been suggested also. There are a lot of kids who have not even looked for things to do for their community service. They are just waiting for the teacher to hand them a project.

I agree with staying off the radar. I never thought about the community service hours from school kids. Great idea. My thoughts are with you.

Are there any other SOS members who have posted in the location thread who live near you?

You certainly do live up to your name! So far I'm doing OK. I'm on another beta blocker called Lopressor. I have to split the pills so I can take 25 mg. in the morning and 25 mg. in the evening, WITH food. I see the cardiologist next week so he can see how I'm tolerating the medicine and then up the dosage or add another medication and then I'll see him again in two weeks. I think I scared him!
As for the poll, I STILL haven't decided what to do yet. I want to just put up my tree but time and energy might not let me do it. But I want to do SOMETHING for Christmas!
I'm STILL working on the kitchen. I hate being so *** slow but I can't go any faster. I'm sure I'll hear from the church ladies after Christmas, so I'd rather not call on a bunch of teenagers to come clean. At least the church ladies understand that I've been ill and in the hospital. One offhand remark from a teenager -- "Ooo, how gross!" -- would really hurt me, for they wouldn't understand why I needed some extra help.
P.S. Someone from the Bible study ministry did call the inspector (they know her, she's called them before to see if they could help out residents with rent or food assistance) and let her know I was in the hospital.
