21,000 deleted emails!!!!!!! Wow! Congrats! You give me hope. I "only" have about 2800. Thank you for posting that. Thank you peaceandfreedom! You probably already know this, but if you sort by "sender" in your inbox, you might be able to get a bunch of them deleted at once if you know they aren't important. Like if you get some from a place you shop at online, you might be able to just delete all of them from that source. That saves a bunch of time. And if you find that you are on mailing list and don't really read those emails, unsubscribe to prevent future emails coming in from them. You can do it! Just take 5 minutes a day, or 15 minutes a week and you'll have that number down in no time!

Yes, I knew about "how" to do it, it's just the "doing" of it that escapes me. Once I sat down and I think got rid of about 1500 at one sitting. I especially hate those ads that won't easily let you unsubscribe, or that require you to find an old password that perhaps you once needed information or something from but have long forgotten.
Thank you for posting about your victory. It may encourage lots of readers! And, keep up th good work, too. 🙂

If you are having a hard time unsubscribing using the link in their email, I would send an email to their customer service department (usually found on their website) and tell them you want to unsubscribe and list your email (even though it's in the "sender" spot). They have to comply. Maybe set a daily goal like I've done, for either an amount of time spent, or an amount deleted, per day. Whatever isn't daunting to you. Just chip away at it and you'll be making progress.

Hi SetMeFree and peaceandfreedom. Just catching up here now, and saw your marvelous email deleting SMF. This week I too had gotten the inclination to work on my email problem. Most of mine are from too many blogs I have subscribed to, have not read, but don't want to discard until I know I don't want to receive their posts, plus the advertising type ones. Anyway my plan is to assign a letter for each day, and go through the emails whose sender starts with that letter. 26 letters = 26 days. If I can make this a daily habit it will help me keep these at bay. I certainly doubt I will do all of my emails in 1 month, but it's a start. So far I have done H and I. For me today is J, and I've noticed that I have way more than I'd expect starting with J. But doing what I can, I know this will have to carry out over many months. Also considering there are 4-5 days leftover at the end of each month, I can see which letters for me carry the most emails and maybe give them a second day. I just thought someone else might like to try this way too - it's baby steps. Good luck to you both.
