Ok, for the last few days I have been making steamed Figgy Pudding. I am not able to do the preps, the assembly, AND the steaming all in the same day, so I started on Monday night (cook figs, dry bread); continued on Tuesday morning (chopped figs, crumbled bread); then again on Tuesday afternoon (made batter, assembled puddings; and finally Wednesday afternoon (steam them for three + hours). For a number of reasons, I had to use my mom's old turkey roasting pan for the steaming: with heavy-duty foil over for a cover. I let the puddings cool and rest overnight and this morning (Thursday) I unmoulded them. Fine so far. But....then I went to wash the steamer pan. Now incredibly greasy from the pudding water and butter. I noticed that as I swished the pan around in some hot soapy water that BITS of 'dark' stuff started floating up. The steaming process itself loosened all sorts of BAKED ON DIRT. With a little more elbow grease, hot water, a scrubber and some stainless steel cleanser, I have now succeeded in getting this OLD dirty pan visibly cleaner than it has been in years. : I have never cooked anything that cleaned up the pot like this. Magic!

Pudding and a clean pan. Bonus! I have never had this kind of pudding. Have read about it. Sounds yummy. I like figs.
