Hi everybody, I'm unhappyhouse. Really I'm not but my house is because I'm living in what we used to call third degree squalor back on the old Yahoo group. I decided to do something about that though. I had been promising myself that I would do something about the house for several months and I had done nothing. Then last week, I decided to shake things up by changing the room I was going to work on. I bought a new computer back in July and have been coming in here to the office to use it almost every day and this office is what Nicey Nash on Clean House would call "a hot mess." So I decided that I would work on the office starting this week and so far I have cleaned out three dresser drawers (all but wiping them out and then deciding what things belong in them, and which things belong somewhere else. I have filled one 33 gallon bag of paper and other things. Also, I picked up some Styrofoam from the floor and some papers and some Coca-Cola cans. I actually started with the pile of Styrofoam and Coca-Cola cans and it's almost gone. Yesterday I started cleaning a fourth dresser drawer and it's all ready to be wiped out. Last night, I ran into a bit of trouble. There's an unused nonworking unable to be fixed computer in my office along with this one and it will have to go someplace. I am going to recycle it, but until that time it has to live with me. Since I couldn't clean out the other two drawers on the dresser (computer blocked them) I decided to straighten up the mess on the bench. I found lots of CDs. Some were blank, some were used. I found four sets of Rescue Disks. I don't know what version of XP--Home or Pro, but I think that there are two of each. Anyway, those disks are going out. They were going out today, but Mama and I went Christmas shopping.
I live in the USA in the state of Georgia with my adorable doggy Little Bit. She is asleep right now (smart dog--it is 2:54AM EST). Anyway to explain what I doing up so late, I was asleep in my chair in the living room when I thought I heard Little Bit's bark. I guess that I was more asleep than awake the first time. I didn't pay attention to it the first time, but I heard her bark two more times and finally I opened my eyes and there she was standing looking up at me as if to say "I want something." I said to her "Little Bit, what do you want?" I got no response other than her "you know what I want" look. I said to her, "Little Bit show me what you want. I don't know. Show me." Then she went and stood beside her water dish. I did not teach her to do this. When she stands beside her water dish looking at it, that means one of two things--she is low on water or she is out of water.(That dog does love water!) That is OK. It is good for her and us too. I got up and went to Little Bit's water dish and when I got near to it I saw that this was one of the times when she was low on water. The dish was half full. I took it to the bathroom and ran some cool water out of the tap to fill up her purple stoneware dish and then I took it back in the living room where she wants it and I was expecting her to drink from it, but she wasn't there; she had gone to the bedroom and so I followed her (the bedroom is next to the office (I thought I'd check to see if any new e mail had come in (it had), I cleared up (I hope) a problem I was having with receiving newsletters from About.com. I subscribed to them and never received them so I went to the About.com site and I was going to contact Customer Care and let them know. However, as I was typing in the reason for my contacting them I mentioned that the newsletters had been going over to the Yahoo account and was that where the new newsletters had gone? I looked to see what About.com had to say about e mail subscriptions on Customer Care and they said that if you are subscribed to a newsletter with one e mail addy and you want it changed, you should first unsubscribe from the old e mail addy and then wait until you get their e mail to you saying that you have been unsubscripted from Newsletter So and So. Then you can re sub to the newsletter using your preferred e mail addy. I hadn't done this. Plus my ISP (the people I pay for Internet service) has a really strong spam filter and it has stopped lots of mail. Anyway, I hope that what I did tonight/this morning did resolve the problem on my end.
I enjoy reading, knitting, crocheting, reading, birdwatching, gardening, playing with my doggy (next Spring we're starting an exercise program. She doesn't know that.) I enjoy computers and the Internet and lots more. I look forward to getting to know all of you.

Welcome to the site, big big hugs! I am pretty new here myself, so I am still learning to take the advice given. I have tried a few things I've been told and many things I have seen in other posts and it's helped me so much! It's really nice to have someone to cheer you on, ya know. Congratulations on what you have done so far, that is a very huge start imo! You've even inspired me to clean up my dusty computer area today. My poor computer thanks you. I like knitting too, I have not made anything besides just normal straight knitting that goes on and on. I basically no nothing complex about it. So, I now know who to pester when I feel like making some gloves.

Welcome to Stepping Out Of Squalor, Unhappyhouse. Sounds like you have made a very good start in getting the Styrofoam and cans out. And cleaning out the dresser drawers is wonderful, too. Keep reading, and keep posting!

WELCOME!! Unhappyhouse! Good for you on getting your drawers cleaned out! That's cool that you can knit and crochet....I have no patience for that kind of thing and I'm always envious of people who can do that (but in a good way!)
