I have been so good at maintaining for so many years. True, my basement, garage, and a few closets have been squalorous during that time, but all the living areas of my house have been at a 0 or 1 and for brief periods at a 2. I've lurked and very rarely posted here because I've felt the need to keep myself in line...I still do random crap that I know "normal" people don't do...leave a glass of milk out for a week in a perfectly clean room, completely unable to do anything about it. Clean the cat litter, but not take any of the zip lock bags out for 6 months and then deal with the humiliation of having my dh find them and think I'm wacky because each week I've said I was taking it out with the trash. Now I just realized my br is squalorous. A plate of food under the desk, hidden from dh. soda bottles, a fork. Mounds of paper, mounds and mounds of laundry not so hidden. He's made comments over the last few days and I just looked around and actually saw it. Weird. Must have been here for 2 months. I'm going to get it done NOW. Wish me luck. Luu

Good luck, and just do it! Nothin' to it but to do it, they say. I really like the listzilla "working in threes" threads here, because of how the emphasis is put on babysteps sometimes. Just think of one task, and break that one task into three parts if needed. (you might have to break those three parts down again into three more separate parts. But the goal is to do something which should be relatively easy into actual, do-able, not so overwhelming things.) Because deep cleaning is never really simple. To get that one thing done, you have to first do 12 other things, and just thinking about how to make it all happen is a real mental exercise sometimes in and of itself.

Mmmm after reading this post I had to go look for myself (something tugging at the back of my brain) and sad to say but it sounds familiar! Most of my home is good too but I have my areas believe me. Like you my bedroom is now beginning to fill up - why haven't I seen this before? I have ants in the bedroom too...they moved out of the computer/fish room and made their way to the bedroom because I often eat in there and even though I have a garbage can and put the garbage in it, it really really helps to take the garbage out once in awhile. Even if it doesn't smell. Because the ants can sure smell it. And papers oh lord the papers. The dresser once again has a pile of papers teetering on top of it. A pair of shorts and a bra that need sewing. Coupons that need cutting. Brochures that need to be tossed. Important papers that need to be dealt with. Forms to be filled out for goodness sake and soon too!! Since you are starting on your bedroom Luucy I will start on mine too. I'm going to take that garbage out right now! Then I'm going to put ant bait down and sew those shorts too so I can put them away! Good luck Luucy and thanks for the wake up call!

I really feel for you here. I let my bedroom get squalorous too. And the thing about the milk being there for a week, and NOT BEING ABLE to do anything, that is so like me. I just CAN'T and I don't know why I can't, but I can't.
So, you are definitely not alone!

He's made comments over the last few days and I just looked around and actually saw it. While I'm wishing you luck, I'm also wondering if he is not able to pick things up himself. (-:

Worked on my bedroom in the weekend, it had gotten really bad. Still a few things to do - must get hubby to close his drawers as we have a cat just bursting with kittens and I dont want that added to our room Louise
