Hi, I'm Katisha I'm currently experiencing fourth degree squalor. I planned a tree for this Christmas and couldn't even get the floor space it needed. I'm physically endangered just by trying to move around my home and I can't even let my boyfriend through my front door. I've never been over the threshold at his house either and I know he too lives in squalor. It's years since it's been this bad and I am sinking deeper into depression each day. I used to be on Squalor Survivors, but my access was limited back then. I'm hoping to find the help and support needed to get myself into a better living space. It's a thing that goes two ways, so if I can help anyone out there I will. At least we know through this forum that we are not alone.  |

Welcome, Katisha. I'm sorry that you are dealing with depression, and that the squalor prevented you being able to put up a tree this year. I'm worried that you said that you are physically endangered by difficulty moving around. Won't you jump into listzilla, and see if you can start creating the safe, cozy home that you deserve?!?
We all start on this journey somewhere...fourth degree is just a term that describes what you already knew that you were dealing with. I look forward to following your success, as you work you way to third degree and lower. As you reclaim your home!

Hi!
If I were you, I'd see how bad the boyfriend's house is. If it's bad enough that it would make you not embarassed for him to come in your place, then that's great! You guys can help each other clean!
Years ago I used to fluctuate between 0 and 4th degree squalor, and I still remember my method for getting it from 4th back to zero, if you need help. Just let me know if you need some hand holding and guidance during the process.

Welcome, welcome! When my house was bad I didn't dare post til I got it under control. People like you who post at the beginning of the journey helped me. You are already blessing people who are too shy or depressed to post. Wind and Messyang have a good idea--together you and your boyfriend could be such strong allies of each other in this Hope to see you on Listzilla and the other boards

Hi Katisha,
I'm new too. And familiar with depression. My depression got to the point where I had to
see my doctor for medication and participate in talk therapy.
Maybe depression is impacting your ability to keep up with things at home-(I know environmental factors can trigger depression too)
I am thinking of you and sending support your way for whatever you need for the situation
to ease and improve for you.
