Hi all! I’m new here. Lying in bed, covering my nose because the cat litter smells so bad. Ordered some new litter online that is due to arrive later today. That’s my win for today.
This is no way to live.
My entire shed and one room are piled high with about 100 bankers boxes full of papers. There are some old photos and sentimental items which is why I can’t just throw them away. Plus just about every surface is full of clutter and closets jammed full.
Please help me understand how this board works? I feel overwhelmed by all the posts and am not sure how or where to begin. When I get overwhelmed, I shut down and go back to bed. I don’t want to shut down. Can you please help me know how to utilize what seems to be a very kind and supportive place? Thank you all.

Welcome joyfulnc ! It's good to see you here. I've been here a while, however unfortunately I'm the not the best one to clearly advise about how to get around the forum. There is a private section for members only that most new members will enter if they decide to start a blog. Right now you are in the public section. There are work-along threads that are very supportive here if that's what you need. I'm certain someone will post soon enough with all the information you need. In the meantime, chin up and hang in there. You CAN turn things around and make your life happier!

Hi joyfulnc
I am not the best one to help you understand but I can give you a little help. Lots of us here totally understand about overwhelm; so don't try to figure it all out at once. Just get a little familiar and you will pick things up. The main thing is to stay here. It really does help.
The first thing would be to start a blog for yourself. It's fine to post in Introductions but anybody can read those. When you register as a member here you can start your own blog and only members can read what you post. It makes things more private so random people from the internet can't check you out.
If you want to read around a bit you can click on Latest at the top of the SOOS page. That will give you a good idea about what is happening. There are some blogs where people keep track of their journey (other members can comment) and there are some work-along threads where people post about what they are doing and encourage each other.
When you need some inspiring reading you can go to Home at the top of the SOOS page, then scroll to General and click on Squalor Board. You'll see something that says Sub-Boards and under that Favorite Threads. Click on that for lots of good advice given by people who have experienced all the yuck and share their hard-earned lessons.
You are right, this is a very kind and supportive place. You have taken a good first step finding it. Others will be jumping in to give you lots of help.

Welcome joyfulncJust know that you are not alone. Many of us have been right there for a variety of reasons. One way to use this board as a tool is to post on "Weekday Work Alongs." Other members love "Working in Threes" to post daily tasks. You can start a blog to track what you are doing. The most important thing to know is that we are here for you. When I am overloaded, I start "preparing" to do whatever the chore is. I break the task down into very tiny steps. I found out that all tasks are made up of do-able steps. I hope you will try this.

Welcome! There is no one "right" way to use this board. Try a few things and see what is helpful for you. Some people use the LISTZILLA subforum and the WORKING IN THREES thread to list what 3 things they plan to do, and what things they have accomplished. For example, the 3 things can be brushed teeth, drank water, fed the cat, whatever you need to do, or want to celebrate doing. Some people start a blog to keep track of their goals and how they are doing, or to share for encouragement. It's up to you, whatever works for you.
