Go Go Go 1) Since everyone is talking about taxes - try to modify one last thing to DH and myself so that my DM's stuff doesn't creep into 2024. Started this before Christmas but we will see. If I can fix that - I can close out DM's trust permanently for 2023. Was able to do it! Means I can officially close DM's trust account in 2023! 2) Finish the food review and disperse it to compost and food bank. About 75% was done on 12/30 and 12/31. As of yesterday, all the expired food is in the compost - took three weeks of compost containers there was so much plus I had my regular compost of meal prep. All the packaging is in recycling. The stuff for the food bank is in my backseat so "OUT OF THE HOUSE" !3) Try and have either DM's old room or the guest room ready to add to the cleaners rotation on next visit. 4) Put back all the things we took down for the renovation (a year ago!) and things we took down due to a new kitten. The new kitten stuff may be pruned quite a bit. My BFF sent a cute coaster which I put by my chair - didn't even enjoy it one time before MM pushed it to the floor and broke it. Sigh. 5) Work on e-waste so that I can start purging some furniture out of the home office. This long weekend I want to work on the various bedrooms and try and get stuff "on the move". PC

Phoenixcat, that has to be a relief to get the trust closed out, anything like that is so much work. It's too bad things have to be so complicated.
Hi TT, did your guest room get messed up by guests? Or is it a storage room?
It's time for me to report, I didn't do as much as I wanted to this week--I've been having scary cold weather and it's making me quite nervous and distracted. Hopefully once the three really bad days are over I can do more.
In the last week I did some more plant room cleaning, I did the last 10 minutes on the book data entry goal and the last 20 minutes on the old paper goal. So I finished two goals, and in the plant room I have finished cleaning the work table, which takes the most time and is necessary to do so that I can clean the tables that are actually full of plants.
As for baseline, I got back to it--I think 2 days ago? Today I was going to say I wasn't back to baseline because I have containers trying to catch the water from all the faucets that are dripping so they don't freeze--there's a mess involved with that, but my criteria is that I would not be embarrassed if someone came in and saw it, and I really would not be embarrassed to be preventing my pipes from freezing and collecting the water for my plants--so I'm counting today. I have to try to get back to it every day because when I have a day with a mess it quickly grows into several days with a mess!

I've been thinking about the need to get back to baseline every day as well, Diane. This house is too small to ignore dishes, duds or dinner for even one day. Not to mention making the bed and peeping! I just want to go back to sleep, but have to get ready for an appt. DVD is going to support me in focusing on the office and paperwork.

Hello all…January will probably carry over, so rather than saying I’m completing these tasks I’ll just say I’m going to work on these tasks. 😝
Make progress on the doom room Kitchen remodel progress, also go back through cabinets and pantry which need a refresh Organization. Get driveway completely cleared out. Work on saving electricity. Work on eating healthier. Make one trip every month to Dad’s to help with their place. But already sounds like months of work so I’m gonna stop there.

Hi laura! You have some interesting goals there--do you have any specific ideas on how you can save on electricity?
Scholar, I love the baseline idea, even though I'm not successful at it all the time--it's kind of magical how I start finding motivation to do other things once I consider the house decluttered. And the beauty of it is that you can have anything as baseline, it doesn't have to be totally decluttered, you just have to keep things at a certain identifiable level and not backslide, then as you are able, get the "baseline" better and better.
So, this week I admitted that I'm not at baseline--not only the water container mess, but as soon as I identify a mess then I let other things go. The weather is going above freezing for the rest of the week so I hope I can focus more on things that don't relate to getting through the cold weather.
I only did a couple of challenge things, 10 minutes on plant room cleaning, and I took a large amount of cuttings from a plant. I did make progress on my book box, I finished the book titled City Of Dark Hearts--I ended up really enjoying it. I have started another book from that box and am already about a quarter of the way through. I found my notes about that box--there were originally 24 books, I got rid of 7 right away and kept 6 for sure. That left 11 possibles, I was able to get rid of 4 more so far after reading the first few pages and deciding I didn't want them. So far I've finished reading 2, that leaves the one I'm reading and 4 more to try.

Probably my last report for the month: 1) Since everyone is talking about taxes - try to modify one last thing to DH and myself so that my DM's stuff doesn't creep into 2024. Started this before Christmas but we will see. If I can fix that - I can close out DM's trust permanently for 2023. Will meet with the trust accountant by February 15th and hope that we can close out DM's estate in 2023. 2) Finish the food review and disperse it to compost and food bank. About 75% was done on 12/30 and 12/31. Completely done but some areas being junked up again by holiday candy and an ambitious Costco order . And dare I say it - Girl Scout cookies Cleaner took all my spare ice packs yesterday so that was the last of it to leave here. My hairdresser took all the extra food - she has a large family. 3) Try and have either DM's old room or the guest room ready to add to the cleaners rotation on next visit. The spare room was ready for her yesterday! Working on DM's old room this weekend. Sigh. Also being worked on this weekend but will leak into February for sure.5) Work on e-waste so that I can start purging some furniture out of the home office. Definitely a February item. Last weekend of the month! PC

Just one more day and I have only done one thing on this list. I have done about an hour and a half on the den work. Nothing else on the list. I did many other things though, including putting away Christmas, which was a lot of work. I had hoped to get the work done under the kitchen sink but that will have to carry over until next month. I am still pleased with what I HAVE done this month and will just continue to get things done, as I can.

Hello everyone! It was such a pleasure working with you on this challenge for January. My goal was to Get this house Spring Cleaned ASAP so I can enjoy myself this early spring. I have Spring cleaned the kitchen, living room , hall, entrance way hall bathroom. I have a little more to get done in my room but I have a whole day tomorrow to work on it so I should be able to get it done. This spring I plan to live every day to the fullest.

The month is over with! Someone, please make time stop going by so fast!
So, scholar, that has to be very satisfying to see all those red checks--you did amazing this month.
And def, that much spring cleaning done and it isn't even spring? (I don't think I've ever done spring cleaning. Except maybe washing some windows once the weather gets warm enough.)
Catcats, I read every day what you do in the work-along thread and yes, you got many lists done of work other than what you put down for your challenge.
I too, will have to move everything over to this month. I was getting ready for a handyman's visit which finally happened on January 31st, which was good because I decluttered and got my house back to solid baseline, but also bad because I was so focused on that visit I didn't do much else. In this last week I took some coleus cuttings, and I repotted a Haworthia pygmea into a larger pot. I also refrigerated some seeds for planting later, I only did a couple kinds that need the longest fridge time.
That means for the entire month I just completed two goals and didn't do anything at all on four of them.
February is a new month, although a short one!
Diane
