Okay folks, it's a new month, a new year, and a chance to start fresh.
Think of something you would like to get done this month, whether it concerns decluttering, dehoarding, cleaning, or any other self-or-home-improvement goal.
It's always more inspiring to work alongside other people so please, share you goals and then let us know how you do.

Hi ! I will carry forward my December goals of working in the den for 1 hour, and weeding for 1 hour. I will carry forward that big goal of cleaning and organizing under the kitchen sink. I am adding-----finding a place to better store the pans that are in my oven so that they don't have to be unloaded and reloaded every darn time I wish to bake something !!!
My best to all !!!!!

Happy New Year! I made a mistake in my 2022 taxes and my goal is to correct it this month and submit amended information. I have no idea how to do this but I will figure it out. It means more money for me! And I want it done before I submit 2023 taxes.

Hi Bree, I have taxes as one of my goals, but current taxes--as much as can be done by the end of January.
Catcats, you must have mild weather if you're still planning on doing weeding!
I have 13 goals again, I know it's too much but I don't care, I love having a variety of things to do. Some are old and some are new.

I owe the IRS some paperwork as well. I have the paperwork; now to find the request! We are also going to review the holiday decorations, with the goal of fitting everything into the red and green storage boxes we already have. I have already brought those boxes downstairs. DVD is taking down the outdoor stuff. We are making a list of decoration-related tasks (repair, painting, purchases, etc.). I want to set up a vision board gathering. I have four other people interested in this.
And this is the month for office and finances. I need a new car! So getting clarity on what I can afford is crucial.

Hi scholar--you startled me there for a minute with those bright colors!
I just today finished watching an old Hallmark movie where a character had a vision board!

Good morning you motivated people!! I did OK in December mainly because I focused around my "usual" things of the holidays and end of year tasks. January 1) Since everyone is talking about taxes - try to modify one last thing to DH and myself so that my DM's stuff doesn't creep into 2024. Started this before Christmas but we will see. If I can fix that - I can close out DM's trust permanently for 2023. 2) Finish the food review and disperse it to compost and food bank. About 75% was done on 12/30 and 12/31. 3) Try and have either DM's old room or the guest room ready to add to the cleaners rotation on next visit. 4) Put back all the things we took down for the renovation (a year ago!) and things we took down due to a new kitten. The new kitten stuff may be pruned quite a bit. My BFF sent a cute coaster which I put by my chair - didn't even enjoy it one time before MM pushed it to the floor and broke it. Sigh. 5) Work on e-waste so that I can start purging some furniture out of the home office. I have tons more in my head but I'm pretty sure that stuff will take a lot longer than I expect. Just the food sort is taking way more days and energy than I originally planned. PC

Diane I startled myself with that crazy avatar! I think I will change it shortly.
DONE: DVD took down the lights and wrapped them up
I labeled the cords
he measured the largest light rack we went to the store and bought the biggest tub we could find he is filling it up
He wants to fulfill a 15 year dream to put a train track in the attic. I want to put my dollhouse there. so we are motivated to do some serious decluttering of the holiday stuff.

I am going to to clear out our filing cabinet and file the probably 2 or 3 years worth of Mail I’ve thrown on top of it. I must be keeping too much stuff as apparently other people do not have a 2 drawer office file for their home

Yay, womble is here!
other people do not have a 2 drawer office file for their home
Well, maybe most people don't, but they probably should! File cabinets are the easiest way to keep track of paper. Of course, I have a FOUR drawer file cabinet and it's completely full--even though I do purge the bills, etc. every couple of years. So, okay, I probably keep too much.
Phoenixcat, I hope you don't have travel plans this month, they have to take up a lot of your time in preparation as well as actually being gone.
I did start a few challenge things yesterday, my report day this month is Monday so I will also report on the other two challenge threads on the same day so I remember.
I will need to shop before I can do the crockpot dish since I'm missing a couple of essential ingredients, my shopping trip will probably be next week so I need to remember to add some things to my shopping list.

womble at one point I had 30 banker's boxes full of papers!!! Some of it was from teaching, but still!!! I only have four drawers now, however the contents of one of the drawers is strewn all over my office.
I watched an inspiring video about going low-buy this months that had some concrete suggestions to make this successful. One was starting a "command center," essentially a notebook with meal planning, events, and thing to do other than spend money.
So I have started that:
found a blank journal to dedicate added action items listed successful meals found another list that I need to transfer
additional January goals brought forward: find IRS paperwork file IRS paperwork review holiday decorations as we take them down pack and label what we're keeping we have a plan for rearranging the attic a bit
ask carer if he is interested in what we don't want
post the rest to local "no buy" group
donate any left over schedule vision board gathering post invites to vision board gathering
prep for vision board gathering prep for paper processing do paper processing start new $ thread review low buy ideas w/ DVD research spending plan formats make spending plan format update long term cash flow determine budget for "new" car tell my broker (DB's carer's side gig) what I can afford

Scholar, I will be interested if your "low-buy" plan works, I need that all the time.
Hi def!
Okay, today is reporting day, I was hoping to have something completed by today but instead did little bits on different goals. I did 10 minutes on cleaning the plant room, 40 minutes on taxes, 20 minutes on book data entry, 10 minutes on filing, and 40 minutes on old paper. I also potted up some pieces of my Huernia zebrina plant that fell off the plant--there were 6 or 7 small pieces and I put them into 4 small pots, if they root I will move them again to a pot all together. I will count this as only one potting since they are all the same plant. Up until today I had managed to return to baseline every day, but last night I left some things messy and after grocery shopping today and leaving groceries and bags and shopping cart around, it's still messy. I also worked on some file folders and they are all over the work table, so today will not be a baseline day. I'm counting any day that is totally decluttered at some point in the day. So, yesterday counts even though I left it messy at night because it was good in the morning--today will not count because I did not get it clean at any point today. So, 7 days out of 8 I managed to clean up after myself.
1-Get back to baseline every day - 7 days out of 8
2-Clean plant room - 10 minutes done
3-Work on taxes - 40 minutes done
4-Make one crockpot dish
5-Clean off plant table in DR, tape any remaining windows there that need it 6-File everything in my desk "to file" basket - 10 minutes done
7-Plant Goal (repot 2, pot 4 cuttings, start 4 cuttings) - One set of cuttings done
8-2nd Book Box-finish current book - still reading the chosen book, slowly
9-Refrigerate seeds that need cold stratification - not done but I know which ones I need to refrigerate--this year there are only 4 or 5 kinds
10-Christmas card organizing and storing 11-Password project - 60 minutes 12-Old paper - 60 minutes - 40 minutes done
13-Book Data Entry - 30 minutes - 20 minutes done

That's a great list, Diane!! I'm going to make it easy on myself for this month and also for this New Year: House reset daily- including 1 load of laundry And 1 decluttering task daily. Today I chose to declutter my refrigerator.
